Smoked a tire in 2nd gear during autox (see movie)

I thought the LSD would have hooked up a little harder preventing the "one wheel Spin" but coming out of a slow corner in 2nd gear did made smoke..... Check out the movie...

same thing happened to me, even got it on video, but that was back in May, and I think the guy who took the vid got rid of it...he was never able to e-mail it too me.

The LSD is not all-curing for wheel spin, but it does help out alot...imagine if it wasn't there at all

You're right... Mazda did us right by making that option availlable. That was one of the big selling points for me after playing "Roast the Wheel" with my Civic Si.

Hmm, how to say this? Our LSD had a bias ratio of 2:1, so it can only transfer twice the torque on the inside wheel to the outside wheel. If you corner too hard and lift the inside wheel then very little force can be transferred to the outside wheel. Ergo, the power from planting your right foot goes up in tire smoke.

Solution is to enter the turn a bit slower so the inside wheel hooks up more, and then squeeze the throttle on exit to build power gradually as you straighten the steering wheel. More hookup on the inside wheel translates into more transfer of power to the outside wheel and it's faster. I did this myself at an autox last summer and shaved most of a second off my time over a course with three 180s in it.

Just remember -- Slow In, Fast Out.
