Smashy Smashy

I have no clue how all the glass ended up under me. I unfortunately looked at the window before he hit it, so the glass hit me in the face. I only got cut on my hand though. There's glass everywhere; in the ebrake, my driver map pocket, in the back.

I've attached a bad Paint drawing of the accident scene.

You will be picking glass out of places you never thought it would go (in the car). After I t-boned the Galant I even had side window glass in my cowl air vent.

Glad you are OK...

Last summer somebody stole the wheels off of my 89 Accord. I came out in the morning and it was on cinder blocks. The weight of the car on the blocks bent the body under the doors (not the frame), and they were $100 from totalling it. It cost $3000!!! And all the monkeys got away with was a 14 year old set of beat up 13 inch steel wheels with cracked hubcaps and worn tires... I don't have pictures anymore, but you would never guess that it was so close to totalled. But I got new wheels/tires/hubcaps/paint out of it =).

I have Progressive too. (just went into the body shop myself)
I must say they handle claims very fast and are actually polite and professional on the phone. I have had some horrid experience with Insurance Co's in the past! Progressive is worth the extra money IMO! That and they use great body shops for repairs!

hey you should check with the body shop who has your car if they do body kits maybe u can get a nice kit and they will put it on instead of oem. Sometimes they do that. Glad to see your ok man. Last year had a show neon all hooked up got stolen broad day light lost about $15,000 worth of equipment that was in and on the outside of it. It sucks big time gettin something stolen.

So Progressive says since it's not unibody construction, they can fix it. Apparently P5's have 4 parts welded together at the factory. I need 3 replaced so they are getting them from Mazda and putting it back together. This is all being done by A & L Motor Sales in Monroeville, PA. They are a BMW/Jaguar dealer. Does any of this sound odd? Why did they send it to a BMW dealer? Why can't they just total my car because this is going to take forever. Any bets on how long before its fixed?

never. If/when it is fixed, though, be VERY thorough with the car. Check EVERYTHING. My gf had her civic fixed and I noticed once that the car horn wasn't working. Tried it again and it worked. The repair shop found that there was a problem with the main CPU. Also, there's a noise every time the brakes are hit hard or the car turns right. She never got it fixed because she waited too long to complain about it. Moral of the story is: be aggressive in trying to get everything fixed. But remember it'll probably never be quite like it was.

So I talked to Progressive today. The car is totalled. They had to redo the estimate and it came to $12,000 this time. Did you know the headliner is $400 and the drivers seat cushion is $500?!?!?

That sucks, but as was stated above it's probably for the better. That car would never be the same.

Plus if you ever got hit in the same spot again I would hate to think what it would look like. I'm sure they'd tell you it was fine, but I wouldn't trust it!

I know you're prob pissed about it, but be glad you're healthy. Cars can be replaced...imagine living the rest of your life with a limp or something worse.

Glad you're ok though...and you'll have a new car for Spring!

some ppl drive wrecklessly they dont even care when ur turning left

That's unfortunate. Look on the bright side, though. They'll give you money on what the car's worth. Chances are since dealers are looking to get rid of their P5's (many around my area don't even have any left or only have one or two left), you'll get a good/better deal on getting one. That leaves extra spending money for more mods. And like they said, there could've been future problems with the car in another hit. OR problems with the car could show up later on down the road. Better off to start fresh. Good luck!
