Hi yesterday i got into a small car wreck. Everyone was fine no mechanical damage done to ether car. I don't want to talk about the event it self, but long story short i'm paying out of pocket to fix my car. The car is safe to drive, i drove it back home and it drove like nothing even happen. Lucky it missed the front wheel and the airbag crush sensor.

Even though i am happy that it was a relatively small crash and no one go hurt. As silly as it is im still super sad about the whole thing this car is my baby. Ive spent many hours and late night and alot money to get it where it is today.

I didn't think the damage was that bad until i got back home and began to remove the head lamp and i noticed the metal is more bent than i expected.
I don't know anything really about body work or metal working. I don't know how much it would cost to get the metal back to acceptable shape if its possible. I also don't have much money to pay someone to do it.

My other concern is my insurance is going to go way up. I don't think im going to be able to afford it. I've been thinking about selling or reshelling the car. Does anyone know if the last gen manual transmission proteges that are not wagon, mp3 or mazdaspeed have cheaper insurance or are they all the same. I was thinking since those three are consider "sporty" so the other proteges might be a little cheaper.

Lastly if it comes to this how much would it be worth. Say as it sits and if i repaired it.
i've done alot of work to the car. Just to name a few:
Forge engine: wiseco pistos (9.0:1), Crower rods, Eibach valve springs, FSZE intake cam, ARP hardware for cylinder head rod caps & main caps, engine only has about 9k since the build.
Haltech Sprint 500 Stand alone.
Steedspeed t25 manifold, Down pipe, T25 flanged GT3071r running 15psi.
04 Mazda 6 brake conversion, w/ stoptech pads and rotors(crossdrilled and slotted)
Yellowspeed coil overs.

find a fender, hood and bumper then you only have a small easy repair which should be cheap to get done especially if you have already removed everything that would be in the way.

you dont have collision coverage with your insurance?

was the accident your fault? why would you insurance go up?

Sorry to hear! I'm sure the most economical route is to source all the parts you need from a u-pull-it junkyard and repair the car, assuming the metal brackets can be pulled back into place. Good luck and keep the forum posted.

Way a head of you. I went this morning to pick-a-part in Fredericksburg VA and no luck. The crappy thing is i go there on average once a month and i always see atlest one Midnight blue protege5 ether in the public or private yard.

well i worked on it for a little this evening and im a bit more optimistic. I removed the fender and bumper support. I started to slowly bend things back and its looking a little better already. I think i should be able to get the metal back to shape on my own. If i get lucky sourcing the parts i should have looking like it never happened very soon.

If you are paying out of pocket for all the damages (perhaps even to the other car) then there is no pay out for your insurance company and they shouldn't care,... However, if there was an accident report (cops were involved) then the insurance company will probably find out (they usually do a police check for every customer at renewal time) and even though you payed for everything they may see you as a bigger risk and crank up your rates.

Some companies allow you to have one accident without insurance rate increases and especially if you've paid for everything, then they may not care,... it depends on the company, your broker and how long you've been with your insurance company without a claim.

Unfortunately, just phoning them to ask, may set off a red flag and they may crank up your rates because you tipped them off ,...

Another thing I noticed when I got my car is that the 2002 was cheaper on insurance than the 2003,... I figure it's because the 2003 was done up sportier and appealed to more aggressive drivers and ended up in more accidents. I remember finding an accident report list (for Canada though) and the accident rate for the 2002 was way lower than the 2003 ??? Go figure.

Your car is probably worth around $2000. The things you added to the car (rebuilt engine, turbo, brakes and suspension) are worth more separated and sold on their own, than the whole damaged car, "as is".
Check out the marketplace here for damaged cars where owners are parting out their protege5s.

There is a Midnight blue P5 at my local junkyard. Fenders, bumper, and headlights are there!
