So i was about to run this wrx...at the track....from a dig Of coarse, and when I launched and tried shifting to 2nd, revs where heading to 6k but I wasnt going much faster...clutch was slipping of course. This happened twice. Drove slow home and now im afraid to dive it today because Im scared lol

that was last night.

Beat the 05 wrx by 5-6 cars from a 40mph track roll if that counts.(drive2)

so yall think my clutch is/will be alright or is it fudge?

I'll let yall know how it drove after i get on it today...:S

my clutch slipped my first time at the track and i think i burned it pretty good as well cause it smelled real bad, it even smelled for a month afterwards, i think even now it still has somewhat of a smell, might not be the clutch but it smells like it. anyways, i ran 3 more times after that and didn't have any problems with the clutch and here i am 2000 miles later with no slippage problems or anything. so i dont know, i wish i know why the smell was still around even now.

i am thinking maybe the burnt remains are still inside the housing and when they heat up they give off the odor. i have about 8900 miles on my clutch.

bova, thats a good assumption because I have heard that the smell stays for a long time too. So that might be it.

what ya mean?

When i'm accelerating hard and shift quick, the revs seem to jump for a little while and then go down to normal. Does this mean my clutch is getting ready to go? It happens shifting to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

put it 2k and accelerate it and see if the revs jump up and down (as the car doesn't relatively accelerate according to the revs). perfect example would be doing 50mph in 6th gear and 'flooring it'

If you did cook your clutch to no return you may be in for a huge surprise when it does start to really slip on you then the bill to replace will give you a minor coronary issue. The clutches in these cars aren't that great I have held them in my hands before and they seem to hot spot easily. And if you burned the Flywheel you are SOL because they aren't machinable and the only replacement is stock at roughly $1000 a pop.

Not that it's a good comparison to you're AWD requirements but you're basically fwd until you start to slip but I ran for about 5 months with a slipping clutch and it held some power just had to moderate a little!

well if i did damage something wouldn't i have noticed it by now? i mean i have put the miles on and have drove her hard sometimes but still no issues with slippage or anything else. and the smell is almost gone unless you stick your head down in the engine bay.

JCGEMT's car was fine under normal driving but when he got on it the thing slipped like a mother and just got worse and worse and when we took his car apart it was bad jojo.

well when i get on mine it doesn't slip at all, so for now i am going to go ahead and say i'm in the clear.

Let me ask this question..shouldnt ur clutch be covered under warranty???if it constantly slipping like that..how many miles on ur car??

Clutch discs, just like brake pads, are a "wear item" which means they are covered for 12000 miles, under normal driving situations just to cover any manufacturing defects/installation issues. After that, you are on your own.

The flywheel and pressure plate (and maybe throwout bearing) are warrantied for as long as the powertrain is warrantied. If his flywheel is scored/trashed, its useless because he would have to get it replaced at the dealer, and get another shotty stock clutch installed.

If I take it to the dealer, what would they cover? just he Flywheel and hte pressure plate? then I would have to buy the clutch discs?

What clutch you most of you put after replacing the original one?

look when i went to the track with you, the day we came back in a tow truck my clucth slipped one run. then i let the car cool for like 15 minutes while i was waiting to go again and it stoped slipping. then i added the after market turbo months later after tons of abuse the clucth died. but when it first sliped for me it took months of abuse for it to die!

it slipped? u never told me that.

hey, out of topic, ima hijack my own topic.....Do you know a white kenne bell 05+ stang around here (weston, FL)...a white boy drives it. He was at the light with me (I was in mazda3s this time LOL...im always s*** out of luck on this ones...also had a cls55amg..well thats another story) and I asked him if he had a vortech...he said kenne bell, light turn green and he floored it and hit rev limiter...fcking made me deaf...sounded pretty nice.

Karma, if you're doing several runs its easy for your clutch to get hot and start slipping (kind of like brake fade). All you have to do is let it cool down for a few hours and everything should be fine. My mustang used to do it all the time and it lasted 65k miles.

Obviously torturing your clutch by launching it is going to wear it out faster than normal driving. The easiest way to identify a worn clutch is to put some load on it and then remove it (use a gear taller than normal). If you see the RPMs jump when you accelerate and "fall back" when you ease up on the gas you have a slipping clutch. You'll probably even feel the clutch "grab" when it finally settles.

I really doubt you have an issue though, just chill out and enjoy your ride... (drive2)
