My wife recently took a corner too sharp and got both passenger side tires(2009 gt awd with stock 245/45/20 goodyears on stock 20s for reference). It was a good hit and put an indentation on the wheels themselves both front and rear about 2" long. We had all 4 tires replaced as the two good tires were old enough I didn't want to risk too big of a diameter difference screwing up the awd. The tire store mentioned that the two hit wheels are fairly wobbly and would eventually need replacement. He also suggested an alignment.
We got the car back and I drove it to see if there was any wobble, pull, or shimmy indicating it really needed an alignment. It seems to drive fine. However on slow speed coasting there's a slight hum/grinding noise that wasn't there before hitting the curb. It doesn't do it during acceleration or braking or at higher speeds, just when coasting under about 35-40. Thoughts?
I'm hoping she didn't push an axle into the transmission or rear diff or mess up a bearing. Could it just be that the wheels need to be replaced? The tire shop put the damaged wheels on the rear axle.
