Slight Freak Out.. Help!

Alright.... Saturday afternoon as I was driving the speed6 home from the dealership, I was accelerating in either 5th or 6th (can't remember now) and there was a hesitation of the motor.. Yesterday, I was driving home, accelerated from about 40 to 60ish in either 5th or 6th and felt that same hesitation... at first it was thought that it might be ice or crap falling from the car..

TODAY I got the same hesitation as I was accelerating in 5th from about 40 mph to 60ish and it happened about 2500 rpm. I shifted into 6th before my brain processed what happened.. So I slowed down again, shifted back into 5th, and accelerating in exactly the same way. HUGE hesitation. So... sensors? bad gas (lolz) - knock? NORMAL?!??! water in the gas? All of these are possible. There's no CEL and it doesn't happen in lower gears because I've been beating on it in lower gears with no problems. It's only when I pull in higher gears. Other slight possibility is the previous owner didn't stomp on it at all in higher gears....

I stopped by Liberty Mazda in Hartford (or West Hartford) and they can't get me in until Friday. Obviously I'm not going to be doing any more pulls in 5th or 6th but I'm wondering if anyone else with a speed6 has experienced the same thing. It has 21,000 miles on it, it's a 2007, and I put in new gas (which has never caused problems with the RX-8) on Saturday and it's now hovering above 1/4 tank...

Help????

If it was water, I think it would be happening with all gears. Take it back to the dealer when you can.

Just spent about a solid hour looking through the MS6 problems on this forum.. people note lack of power but nothing quite like mine. I'm not sure if it's worth posting on that thread or not...

*sigh*

eg6motion - fuel cut? Care to elaborate?

Yes this is the infamous Speed 6 "stutter". If you try to boost in too low of RPMs the car does not like it. If I remember correctly the MSP had a similar issue.

If I want to get on it I usually downshift so the car is doing at least 3k before I take off like a bat out of hell.

As for the fuel cut issue... When the car senses knock it pulls timing. If you do it bad enough it hits what it called "fuel cut". If you hit fuel cut you will know because it will feel like you just ran your Speed 6 into a brick wall at 30mph.

I think your car doesn't like you and it'll feel better in my garage :P

jking...but yeah, sounds like fuel cut...my car has a problem with distributors, and it'll hesitate on the highway...like jerks from no fuel.

yeah, you could probably get a new fuel pump from the TSB if you print it out and bring it in to the dealership complaining about hesitation on the highway. unfortunately, it's a pretty common occurrence like chris said and the only real way to avoid it is by accelerating above 3k rpms. also, the cobb ap helped a lot with my hesitation as well but i'm not sure if that's something that you would consider.

Didn't get a chance to get to the dealership yesterday so it looks like Monday or Tuesday I'll go in with the TSB in hand. I got it to repeat yesterday, pulled in low RPM in 6th. It just doesn't make sense why this happens and why they would let it go on???? Seems like a critical flaw to me...

On a side note, anyone with a 6 change out the high beam bulbs?? I got some silverstar bulbs that I want to put in but looking at it quickly last night I wasn't sure how to tackle it. And the manual tells you to go to a Mazda dealer... That's what my RX-8 manual said about foglights, F that, I did it myself! Haha.

Hope everyone had a good x-mas!

I don't have to change out the bulbs, I just want to get them to match the HID bulb color. I did it on the RX-8 so I wanted to repeat it on the MS6...

1 time i was driving down the highway in lik 5th gear in traffic and i was doing about maybe 40-50 and tried punching it into the next lane and it did that but then ive tried doing it again and it hasnt done it but im thinking it was because i was switching lanes and it was icy so

You really shouldn't try to boost a car at low RPMs. At 40mph in 5th gear you are doing about 2k.. Try downshifting to 4th and then taking off.

I hear it about the same people who are trying to pass people by just punching it in 6th at 60mph.

Ya I have gotten that same shutter in low rpm boost. Basically have to wait 2500-3000rpm to get on it to be safe.

Don't get silverstars! I wasted my money changing all the bulbs over in my 6 to silverstars, ignoring the people on the 6 forums saying they are junk in the 6 and will blow after a month.

Sure enough a month is all they lasted and switched back to the stock bulbs.. People say the the voltage is a little screwy on the 6's lighting and the silverstars can't take it.

The RPM Store sells Xtec HID-Matched bulbs for 30 bucks and i think they have a lifetime warranty.

I ordered Nokya 80w 5000k bulbs for my car...with all the driving, specially at night, that I do I've only had to change one in a year and a half...and that's only cuz water got in there.

I found a service bulletin about bad fuel pumps on ALL MS6 years...
Here

It happens on the speed3's too. I had the Fuel Pump TSB done. Helped a little at least I thought so at first. But I got the stutter REAL bad the other day worse than ever.

I thought i had an issue with the flow straightener with COBB's SRI & low flows.

Do you have stock air box? The only thing I can think of is that if I know I want to get on it I make a conscious effort to down shift or roll onto the gas and then give her hell.

It's weird. I've had Silverstars in my Jeep for almost 2 years now and no problems. Also had them in my P5 for over a year with no issues. Must be a voltage issue like you mentioned with certain cars.

Luckily the fogs blew a week later than the low beams. I noticed after going out for the day around 5ish when it was just starting to get dark that both the low beams were gone. In the 03-05 the 6 had fogs integrated into the headlight so I was able to make it home before it got too dark. Didn't have anything to do with touching the bulb or anything, they all were dead in about a month.. They do work alot better than the stock bulb and look better too but somethings up with the wiring in the lighting harness that doesn't give them life.

6club had a bunch of posts about it but now that site is owned by people that don't maintain it and is full of bugs/viruses.
