IMG_20111027_202413-1.jpg

just got this one last week :)
and i haven't driven it ONCE! (frigging wife!)

i will find out soon sinc ei will be doing a long drive on it (600+)
plenty of time to break it in!

I just bought mine this weekend!! will post pics soon, it rained so now it's kind of dirty. I got the Grand Touring hatchback in blue. So much more fun to drive than my old car (Acura RL) I picked this forum out of the few I've been looking at and this one seems to be the most active.

man, i just got the basic one...still, a hell of a car.
priceless quote from the wife when she got it
"awww, man!...it doens't go "wooosh" like your car"

yeah the base is i Touring. I just wanted a moonroof mainly, and leather seats are really nice, I pretty much got the GT for the same price as what another dealer was offering the Touring for, so I feel pretty good :) Just need to get fog lights which they said they would hook it up for me at cost.

interested to test drive one, can't afford one yet but maybe a used model down the road

Checked them out yesterday...

I was taking a look at a Skyactiv sedan yesterday and noticed a few things missing I would have expected to see. Granted I'm also comparing to the 2010 grand touring 3s sedan we just got rid of.

A 3i grand touring with Skyactiv doesn't have automatic climate control. Surprised since it comes standard (or used to) even on a base sport 5 and most other mid level trim economy cars. Seems out of place having a car with navigation, leather, heated seats, HID lights, etc and no auto climate control.... If they left it out to save weight they could have eliminated the crap Bose stereo and heated seats and kept the climate control.

Also noticed that with the tech package it doesn't have the keyless start similar to the tech package on the 3s model. No fog lamps which I could care less about honestly. I like the look of the lip spoiler on the 3s which isn't on the 3i grand touring either.

How many RPM does the automatic transmission turn at 65 MPH?
(The brochure doesn't provide gear and final-drive ratios etc.)

How many MPG does the automatic transmission get at a steady 65 MPH ? ... e.g. if you ran a tank on a cross-country trip.

thanks,

I also just bought a Mazda3 SkyActiv and I'm loving it! I got the i Touring (base) model and it has all that I need. The MPG on the highway is nuts! At 65 mph I range from 50-60 mpg. No bs. Right now with mixed highway/street driving I'm looking to get well over 400 miles to this tank.

unfortunately i have not seen anything better than 34mpg, but i come from driving the speed protege and speed3, so i feel retarded doing 65mph...sorry
i just drove a little over 700 miles and it is kinda disappointing to know i have filled the 2 times...i use premium..should i use cheaper gas?
on the way back i will try doing more like 65/70mph and see the difference.

Stick with 87 with SkyActiv. Some cars react differently adding 91 when all they need is 87. 91 octane burns slower and could decrease performance/mpg. I haven't gotten to much exposure with SkyActiv but I would take caution with placing different octanes due to it's high compression ratio.

been using 93 since new.
i am not at all impressed with the MPG or power on this little car.
it is still as fun to drive as the regular 3 but the power is just not there.
when stepping ont he gas, i have to go more than half way through for the car to even move forward!
wtf?
maybe is just the fact that i daily drive the MS3, but i was very disapointed.

do you think it has to do with the type of gas?
the car is almost running on empty now so i will ask the wife to go to the lowest octane, 87.
let's see what happens.

so far, 3010 miles.

couldn't convince the wife to switch over to 87, she thinks she will blow the engine that way.
ohh well...
**** it.

Mazda had to make room for the cost of the Skyactiv engine and transmission, it isn't cheap to R&D things you know. Plus, when comparing similar 40mpg vehicles I think you would find similar concessions other manufacturers had made.

The car was designed to run on 87 octane, no reason to spend the extra money on 93 octane fuel.
