Hey guys, how would I go about adding Sirius radio to my car? I have an 08' speed3 and I notice it has a "sat" option on the radio already...is this something I could just go to bestbuy and have them activate without installing anything? Or would I need to get equipment that would allow me to use it?

If you want to use the factory SAT button and steering wheel controls, you will need to purchase the Mazda OEM Sirius module AND an installation kit which contains the wiring harness to interface with your factory head unit.

Here is one possible source for the OEM stuff:

OR

You could buy an XM or Sirius standalone and use the FM modulator to pick up the audio on your OEM headunit or use the AUX input (which I believe your car has) and run a patch cord from standalone to AUX input. This option is much cheaper....

^^ what he said.

You car is "sirius ready" which is to say the HU is capable of controlling the OEM sirius module but still needs that module to function.

When was your vehicle built? There are two different OEM sirius modules available. The older one works on all '04-'08 models, and the newer one is needed for '08.5+ models. If your build date is after 1/1/08 then you have a '08.5 and need the newer module.

thanks guys, it's prior to that icspots..just a regular '08 model.

You could go through the dealer for the receiver and install package, however that would run you around $300. I'd take a look in the buy/sell sections of the different forums and see if you can find someone selling their module.... even if they just pull the box and not the wiring, the wiring is by far the cheaper part of the whole deal. Occasionally they pop up on ebay for about $150..... I can't remember the seller who had them pretty consistently for a while at that price.

so im about to get another vehicle that will already have sirius/xm in it, so that means i could have the old sirius unit. i'd like to have satellite radio in the speed, but i'd like it to look OEM if i could

so im in the same boat, use the old unit from the other car and probably hook it up through the auxiliary jack, or get the unit i need for $200 or so and be able to use the controls that are allready there

but when i looked at the unit for that, it looked like it had another antenna, but didn't describe anything in the kit. does that mean it has to use another antenna along with the one already on the car? im not about to have 2 antennas sticking up on the car
