Has anybody subscribed to this yet with their msp kenwood. what do you have to do to get it up and running?

You gotta get a decoder and an antenna. Cost about 130-150 for the decoder(for lack of better term) and another 80 bucks or so for the antenna. Then 12 bucks a month I believe for the service!

Umm and nope I don't have one. I'd rater buy some tuning stuff! LOL

Nathan: Apparently; you will still need the satellite decoder, etc... (about $100+), from what a Best Buy car audio dude told me.

I believe it just means it has the functionality to interact with the decoder and change channels and access some more advance controls. Like recieving and displayin music info or channel info. I am just guessin really.

basically what you get for being "satellite ready" is:

1. a shiny logo "Sirius Satellite Ready" that makes people want to steal your HU
2. the ability to see the text that is transmitted on your HU instead of a handheld display
3. not having to use an FM modulator
4. not much else, just "hype"

I don't have my MSP yet, but I've research Sirius thoroughly so I'll be read when I get the car. Here's the deal.

The 919 HU that comes stock is "ready" for Sirius. Meaning it's setup for it as far as the buttons/menus/lcd, but it doesn't have the actual receiver with it.

To setup Sirius on the MSP (and stay all Kenwood, like I'm trying), you need the CX-SR10 antenna (found here). You *can* place it inside on the rear deck, but I'm thinking of getting it painted to put in on the roof. Then run the lines from that down into the KTC-SR01 receiver (found here). The receiver acts as a digital convertor to take the digital satellite signal and make it analog so the HU can understand it and play it. The KTC-SR01 receiver hooks up to the back of the 919 HU via an "Aux In" connector. Then press mode until "Sirius" comes up.

That's what Sirius ready means. It's made ready to accept the signal and all of that without having to require a RF FM modulator, which you can still use, but it's rather pointless.

Hope this clears some of it up and by the way, I found the CX-SR10 antenna, the KTC-SR01 receiver, and then KCA-R70FM all brand new unopened on ebay for $102.50. It's sitting on the floor right now waiting with me for the car. ;)

i have it installed

i just got my sirius installed and activated yesterday. what the receiver means by being sirius compatible is that 1. the radio is already equipped to display the song and the artist for sirius. if it wasnt a sirius ready receiver u would have to buy a separate kenwood display for about 70$. 2. All u need is the antenna which is about 70$, and the little reciever box, it looks like a mini power amp, cant remember price. 3. I took mine to circuit city for the install. took about 30 min. the antenna has 2 sided tape which i had mounted on roof of car, right over top back window. little reciever box is mounted on backside of the rear seat. 4. to activate all u do is call the phone # and give them a # listed on the box when u purchase the receiver box. U NEED A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD to activate. no billing to home. 5. to use it, your receiver will have a Sirius pic on your sreen like how it has a Tuner, Cd, and etc. u just use the src button on your reciever to switch between sirius, cd, and regular tuner. Hope this helps

If you go to www.sirius.com you can actually listen to the music they play for 20minutes at a time. Just pres the stop button before the 20minutes is up and then hit play again to reset the timer. ;) Good stuff, can't wait to hear it in the car.

worth it

yes it was worth it to me. i live in an area where there arent many good radio stations to begin with. the reception is Crystal Clear. i havent listened to cds in days. there is 2 much stuff on sirius to choose from. well worth the $$$. if u really like to listen to music in your car DO IT. plus my car had a 75$ rebate for sirius attacted to the radio when i bought the car. so now that its activated, i can send that rebate and basically get your $$ back for most of the installation.

The local circuit city, (Omaha, NE), wanted $90 for the hardware needed. Given the rebate that makes it $15 for the hardware and install.

Will be installed Monday.
