Looks nice! That's the color my wife would have chosen if we'd ordered a car. And I still think installing 17s standard in Touring models was a mistake ....

Did your local dealer actually have a stick-shift in stock, or did you have to get yours from elsewhere? I live in Michigan, and last I checked there were none in the entire state!

I found a fairly local dealer who was willing to trade a Mazda3 for this Mazda5 (which was located in Georgia). There was another closer dealer who had a silver/black Sport with manual in stock, but their price was higher, I didn't want the black interior, and I'd read that their sales tactics were questionable (high pressure, add-ons, etc.). My wife & I test-drove the Sport there, but we bought this Mica red/sand at the other dealership.

Earlier in the summer I'd test-driven a gray/sand 2012 Sport with manual at Carmax, but their price was just too high for the mileage already incurred. The gray/sand combo was really nice though... sigh.. Carmax had it transferred from Charlotte NC to Raleigh NC so I could test drive it (for free). It got transferred to Virginia or Delaware, then sold.

I taught my wife to drive a manual and she enjoys it as much as I do, so going to the trouble of hunting one down was not an issue in my household.

The last time she owned an automatic was 2001, trading her '98 Accord for a 2001 VW GTi GLX (V6 with 5-speed).

The sand interior gets dirty pretty easily; I'm going tomorrow my local salvage yard just got a 2012 MZ5 in with a dark interior that I'm going to try and get if its nice. I use my car as a car/van/truck; so I don't want the light interior getting dirtier.

Same reason I didn't go for the light interior myself. I waited to find a black interior. At one dealership they were offering me a 2012 GT with the sand beige leather for the price of a Touring, they discounted it and took off all that dealer added cost crap, it looked like it was sitting on the lot for most of the year, aside from that, it had a nasty scrape on the side that they would have to fix at the body shop, looks like someone was moving it around the lot and F'd it up. Was very nice BUT for the light interior. They even tried this, one of the managers came out and offered to have some upholstery guy come and sew in black leather over the beige... I was like WTF?!?! Didn't sound like it would look nice so I was like no way. He tried to pull the same hat trick with a red 2012 Touring that had a beige interior, though it was cloth (even worse) and he said the upholstery guy could sew on black leather onto those seats. LoL

Funny - I got the red one because it had the sand interior. We have a lot of clay here, and the black cloth on a friend's older Mazda5 looked terrible due to the ground in light-colored dirt. I ScotchGarded the whole interior first thing and I use airline blankets under the carseats.

Besides, with that NC sun beating down in the summer, I'll take a lighter colored interior any day.

If I ever find a wrecked Mazda5 with leather, I'd be tempted to convert, though.

Funny - I got the red one because it had the sand interior. We have a lot of clay here, and the black cloth on a friend's older Mazda5 looked terrible due to the ground in light-colored dirt. I ScotchGarded the whole interior first thing and I use airline blankets under the carseats.

Besides, with that NC sun beating down in the summer, I'll take a lighter colored interior any day.

Same here. I dislike the all black interior b/c it gets visible dusty and HOT in the summer. Then again, a lot of people don't like leather but I prefer it over cloth.

I'm never buying a new car with cloth seats again. I love the leather seats in my 3. I would've gone with a Mazda 5 GT with leather package and 6 speed manual if only they had the 7th seat... oh and that yummy new 2.5L Skyactiv engine.

Normally I would agree but since I traded in my '08 manual for my current '08 GT (auto only in US), I'd have no choice but diagree . Underpowered but I do enjoy the auto-ness of it.

I've not made it out there yet, I'm wanting to see that also. It was a rear end hit which is what I am most concerned with when thinking about the rear row of seats.

As for the sand/black controversy everyone is different, I use my car to haul car/truck/semi parts and have had a couple engines on board for trips as well as moving about 60 semi tires around the Ohio area and the sand color stains quickly.

Just love the diesel. A real punch and nice torque. 6 speed manual transmission.

The rims are Borbet and not stock. I use them on my summer set up
They where originally fitted to my winter tires but i thought they looked better so i changed them.
