not illegal at all, as long as the numbers/state/ and stickers are still clearly visible.

I did mine just like alexB. I got my plate holder at Autozone it was like $8 i think. It was a "BELL" brand item, and it was fully adjustable. Very easy install to.

step 1: zip tie it on
step 2: show them its on
step 3: remove plate and throw it in the trunk
step 4: drive around with no front plate again, it looks way better
step 5: repeat

has happened to me 3 times, no big deal.
