Okay well I've never owned a completly stock car and i don't intend on doing it now. I keep struggling with the idea everyday of either getting out of my msp or building it. The car currently has 120,xxx on the shell and motor. If I build it I'll be shooting for low 13's. So basically what I'm getting at is I'm looking for advice on what you guys think i should do or what you yourselves would do...

short answer. yes

to go low 13's i would feel you would have to be around 270-300 hp range. and if you can afford it. do it lol

cause the way i look at it im willing to spend maybe up to 1500 or 2000 in parts. otherwise i will get getting into a bugeye wrx, an srt 4, or maybe even an eclipse gsx.

also the parts would be used cause i dont see the point in buying all new parts if they'd only be new for the first 15 seconds you put them on the car.

wrx = boring
srt-4= ugly
eclipse= a tool bag's car

I love the WRX's but....There is no other other like a spicy. The MSP is too unique a car and with the right help can be a very dependable monster!!! With that said, to get the 13's you will need to get around 300 HP. Which will mean all the supporting mods and a larger turbo and EMS. Even used your looking over 4K once you start pushing the 250+ envelope your looking at forged internals (some here disagree) and tranny upgrades, like welded LSD and GTX gears. Even used those parts are big money not included install.

+1 You might be able to pull off 250+ HP on stock internals, but it would not be "Reliable".

I dont think you are going to push 250Hp on 2k. Intercooler, CAI, Hardpipes, EMS, Plugs, Mani, Exhust...

Let us know how it goes!

Dont be cheep man. Spend the money and build it, dont do 2nd hand parts or dont half ass it, or you will have TONS and TONS of things go wrong. Just build it correctly and FULLY the first time. But if you looking to build this car with only 2,000$ your s*** out of luck, this is not a Civic or a 240sx......

sorry i havent been on in awhile.ive actually just come into some more cash and will probably put 3000+ into the car so far my list of parts i have are vibrant exhaust, injen cold air intake, and a uni chip. What im looking to buy Hardpipes, Plugs, bigger turbo cause more boost the better, aem meth kit, slicks, and mounts. If you guys have other ideas i would like all the help i can get since i've been a honda guy for the last 3 years i'm still pretty new to mazdas.

ALSO if anyone would like to make some cash if you have any of these things you would like to part with please pm me with a price I'm a pretty negotiable guy.

Get a good FMIC with intake(~$800), GHL downpipe if you can find it and custom the rest of the way back (~$700), and stock pistons customized to take forged rods(~$800), up the boost, and SS AFC (~$250). You'll still be under $3000 and well on ur way to forgetting about those damn Honduhs! Oh and you'll need to weld your LSD.
rough estimate on costs, but you get the idea....total (~$2500)

Everyone is taking about buying all these parts to increase HP on a car with 120,000 miles and it is Stock, which means Stock Rods.

Based on what I have seen so far in tearing down 3 motors, I would not do anything until you get forged rods in the car and get a new oiling system. The number one rod bearings are ugly in each motor.

hes got a point. 120k Miles is a hell of a lot. Maybe more power is not the priority. Maybe if you are shooting ~300HP you will need to forge and up the boost. with 120, xxx Miles uping the boost might not be the best idea on stock.

well i realise eventually something is going to go. I learned that playing with hondas real fast. but also if its not broken dont fix it as soon as i blow it its getting rebuilt...im just hoping the final outcome of this car will be well worth the time and money spent on it.

also though im not sure how much of a difference this makes but i know for fact that well over half of those miles were highway. The guy who i bought it from used it as his daily since he bought it when gas was at its highest stirctly for the 30mpg.
