Should I get an MSP?

If you want a drag car, its not great. Takes work, money and know-how to make this car truly fast in a straight line. If you want sick handling right out of the box, its your ride.

Yes. Very very sick handling. :)

Its not the best daily driver and I dont think it was engineered as one; more of a track/weekend car. But it will do the job. Your wife must be cool to be willing to get a car like the MSP. Most girls I know are into luxury/status not performance. ;)

Im from Texas as well, and know that you wont get the clunk much b/c its usually not too cold.

As an all out drag racing car I wouldn't pick the MSP. Although it is a quick car stock, quick being about a 15 sec car or so. Low 14's are easily attainable.

If you could I would look at the later model MSP's as they seem to dyno higher and have the "flash" installed.

Overall, its a sweet car, Im keeping mine as I add it to my collection of performace cars. Getting a EVO MR myself soon. (lick)

Status of loan does not matter, I can release the title any time i want.

Trade in? I don't need another car, i just need to get rid of this thing.

How can the fact that you have a balance owed on the car not matter about the title?

If I remember correct you can't repo in WI. like in most states, but I would think that if there was a lien on the vehicle you would not be able to transfer the title. (legally that is) and then there would always be a balance of the unit and your credit would show a charge off. Also, if the balance is greater than $10,000 most auto finance companies would take it to legal...

If you sell a car for $10 and owe $5, you pay off the balance and they release the title, whats complicated about that?

Not that it matters, but..there is other collateral attached to the loan, so whatever I can sell if it for, i just send the check to the bank, and they release the title to the new owner. End of story. The financial details aren't anyones business obviously. Nothing fishy about it, just a standard car loan.

you have to pay off the loan prior to receiving the title. Hence if I you need my $10 in order to pay off $5, it could take a few weeks before you actually have the title to give to me. Hypothetically, what if there is some complication and the lienholder won't give up the title? Then it's up to the seller's integrity to refund me my $10.

That's probably why having the title up-front would make the transaction smoother, i.e. no delays. Now I'm sure everything would be real smooth with you, but you can't trust everyone to do the right thing.

Understandable. I have already discussed my selling of the vehicle with the lienholder. It's not through a bank, so that gets rid of alot of the issues. It's a credit union, and they are far more lienant than banks. Regardless, I covered my bases before I decided to sell. The title is sitting on my desk.

If you are indeed interested, details can be discussed on the phone or email, not here on the forums.

You most likely are a very good customer and they have great deal of trust in you.I can see a c/u doing something like that. I bet you have a credit score to die for :)

17,900 miles, Titanium Grey, garaged, Mobil 1 synth. oil since 3000 miles, all reciepts for warranty work. Make me an offer I cant refuse. (JK) Yeah, if you want a car with amazing handling, and you like the practicality of FWD and you can still find one...the MSP is a good ride. Also, look into a Spec V or an SRT4.

Either that or he's used and equity loan to buy the rig. Then you would hold the title yourself, as the collateral is your house.

Just a standard car loan.

Yes, because your post is "so" on topic as well...

Nil5 asked about MSP's, several of us answered, and then it turned into other things...

However it's Nil5's thread not yours, it's his call...

no reason to get excited.

i appreciate everyone's help and input. i don't think that right now we are ready to get an MSP. I am teaching my wife how to drive stick on my corolla, and until she's completely comfortable with that, which might take a few weeks, we're going to delay purchasing any car with a stick.

i'm convinced that in the end she'll love it, but teaching someone a stick isn't easy :) i think you have to keep your mouth shut and not nitpick....which is hard to do when the car stalls or the clutch is in agony.

Yeah, it turned into a "for sale" thread (for your car, no less), so it needs to be moved. Noob

Test drove an MSP today. this one:
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...=2004&start_year=2003&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=3

Their asking price is something like $16k, but I found a few things to note about it:

1. The radio is "broken". the faceplate will not flip up to load a cd or fold back.
2. it has an aftermarket injen intake. I am not sure what else has been modded on it.
3. the shifter has been replaced with some kind of short shifter.

None of the stock parts that were replaced are included, I don't think. Do you think these mods affect warranty? Should the price be any lower? What would you pay?

thanks.

Make them replace the radio and the warranty has most likely been voided due to the mods...

by the way, this was the first MSP i've driven, and i was pretty impressed with it as a whole. the handling was sweet for what little i got to test it, since i had to drive on wet pavement with traffic. i love how sensitive and precise the steering is. the torque steer did kind of surprise me at first, though, when i was at like 5500rpm. i love the feeling of that turbo kicking in. such an awesome sound!!! driving home in my corolla was sort of depressing.

i was listening for the "clunk" but i didn't hear it. i briefly looked at the bushings, and they did look kind of worn, but i didn't really know what to look for there.

also, is it normal for the engine/turbo to sound like it is blowing out air until you get to like 4000rpm when the turbo kicks in?

That sound from around 2700rpm to 4000rpm is the Injen intake sucking in cold air.
