Sho's 7th Mazda!

Rolled 7k this weekend.

Had my free oil change done at 6800 miles as we are taking another road trip this week.

Still averaging 29mpg on highway trips, with i-stop off.

Couple things to note:
-while wind noise inside the car seems minimal, when I call my fiance while on the road, she complains that she can hear wind noise prominently on her end. Havent received that feedback from anyone else, however she's usually got airpods in...maybe its amplifying it in her ears?

-the more aggressive you take off from a stop, the smoother the 1-2 shift is. The short gearing and the wet clutch really appreciate a more aggressive take-off IMO

-i wish the front seats had thigh extenders

Another road trip in the books for the better halfs bridal shower. Came back with more than we left with and just under 9k miles on the clock now! Averaged 27mpg on the trip both ways, from Louisville to Baltimore and back loaded up with the 3 pups, luggage for a week, etc.

Love these updates...How did it handle the load and that rack extension on the back. Did that affect handling, noise levels etc?

No affect on noise or handling that was noticeable! If anything just a slight dip in MPG from the additional weight we were hauling.

10k+ mile update!

Thanks for the heads up about the TSB!

9-031/25 – DUST - SAND ENTER CABIN WHEN OPENING REAR DOOR

TSB NUMBER: 09-031/25

TSB ISSUE DATE: 08/05/2025

BULLETIN NOTES APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS: 2024-2026 CX-90 2025-2026 CX-70

DESCRIPTION: While driving on gravel or dusty roads, dust accumulates at the lower inner edge of the door garnish. When the rear door is opened, the dust may be blown up and enter the cabin, adhering to the seats and the floor. This is caused by a large gap at the lower part of the boundary between the rear door and the front door, and air containing dust and/or sand is sucked up into the gap, accumulating at the lower edge of the rear door garnish while driving. To eliminate this concern, a mass production change is under study. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure. NOTE: This repair procedure is an interim countermeasure. After a mass production change is implemented, the repair procedure will be updated.

It is not a good idea to wedge the ISG button into a permanent on position. It has to do with the way microprocessors work. The MCU runs a routine called an interrupt when the button is pushed which sets all the registers associated with the ISG function then resumes its normal tasks. If you wedge the button the MCU is constantly being interrupted and running the set register routine. Given the right set of circumstances where the MCU is tied up servicing the interrupt rather than monitoring the engine a catastrophic event can occur. Other brands have had uncontrolled acceleration and stalling while using this wedge or business card technique to hold the button permanently in. It is best just to get into the habit of pushing the button on every startup. I don't recall it happening on Mazdas but why take the chance that you will be the first to have a bad experience.

Got married last week, and took the 70 to Baltimore as thats where we got married. Up to just 17k miles now.

Back from the honeymoon and back to racking up miles as of today.

In other news,
A great friend, whom I met thru M247 unfortunately passed last week. Im devastated. We met thru Mazdas, bonded through music.

The last conversation we had was him asking to borrow my Transmission Jack for his K24 Mini Cooper project and us joking about him making sure to tuck it in at night between uses and to leave water out for it.

Hello!

Picked up a Cx70 Preferred MHEV on Monday.

Not a stranger to Mazdas as this is my 7th one.

But it is my first ever brand new car, and first car that has an automatic transmission.

Had a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 GT. Bought in 2012 with 25k miles. Learned how to wrench, and tune with that car. Built motor, precision 5862 turbo, auxiliary port injection, coilovers, sway bars, etc. On e48 Ethanol mix, self tuned it made 575whp/467 tq.

Had 2 2006 mazdaspeed 6. One as a beater and one I went all out with during covid to show that the MZR disi was a stout engine if you knew what you were doing. I put a pte 6266, aux port injection, and all supporting mods on an untouched bone stock car. Made 539awhp/421 tq, using a reverse tapered boost curve to keep tq in check. (The accepted limit for the stock connecting rods is roughly 400tq). And tq needs to be limited below 4000rpm as well. That setup didn't eclipse 350tq at the wheels til after 4000rpm, 400tq til 5500rpm and made peak tq at 6200 rpm. Put 25k miles at that power with over 1000 wide open throttle pulls, etc before the stock valve springs said no more and floated every valve in cyl 1 lol.

A 2007 mazdaspeed 6 with a built motor and big turbo that I parted out during covid

A 2013 mazdaspeed 3 with a bnrs4 bolt on turbo upgrade and tune.

And a 2010 mazda 3 2.5 W/ 6spd.

Needless to say, the cx70 is a big change, but fits my lifestyle now.

Initial impressions:
-mazda has come a long way in interior fit/finish/quality since 2013
-the thing handles great for its size
-the inline 6 makes beautiful sounds and is smooth
-its obvious to that the majority of cx90/70 buyers aren't car people and mostly see vehicles as appliances...but the way this car shifts (I'm assuming it has the latest software updates) doesnt seem out of the ordinary. Under normal acceleration, it is getting into 3rd gear by the time you hit 20mph...but its a short ratio transmission and when driving around normally there isn't a need to rev out further between shifts. Its also quite obvious that the majority of folks have no clue the difference between how a tq converter, wet clutch, cvt, ecvt, or dsg operate. Yeah, take off from a stop can be improved in that the 0-10mph acceleration is probably worst in class because of how Mazda has programmed 1st gear takeoff. But I imagine they are being ultra conservative with tq limits and how much they allow the clutch to slip on takeoff due to it being a brand new transmission they've never used outside of these few models the past few years.

Anyways, I'll update as I put miles on it and get to know it more!View attachment 336806View attachment 336807View attachment 336808View attachment 336809View attachment 336810View attachment 336811View attachment 336812View attachment 336813View attachment 336814View attachment 336815View attachment 336816View attachment 336817
