short throw shifter

went to the track yesterday....

didnt run very good times... but amazingly i got alot of coments on how quick my shifting was... they all wanted to know if i was running an aftermarket clutch... and they were all suprised to find out it was no aftermarket clutch... just and after market shifter...

i watched alot of really nice cars miss a gear.... my car slid right into gear everytime...

my favorite mod to date.

i can't wait to get mine done. i'm still debating between twm and b&m. but i think i'll end up going with b&m

yeah the B&M is what i went with for that very reason...hight vs throw
also did bronze-oil and kartboy bushings all around
plus a momo super anitomic shift knob

I LOVE IT the first 300 miles were a pisser but it all broke-in sweetly

everyone GET the B&M

i like my tuning pros.... haha

but really... my friends all love to drive ym car when i let them... they love the shifter....

Howeasy was it to put in? I do most of the work on my R1 (bike) and my brother does alot of workon his WRX. Was going to wait til he came down to help me out. Cannot wait to do this mod.

I installed a B&M with TWM bushing on Wednesday. The difference is amazing, everybody should do it. It is pretty stiff right now but everybody says it gets better after 3-400 miles.

It was pretty easy to install too, it took me about 2 hours but I am slow. The most difficult thing I have done on my car before this was the spark plugs.

its very simple....

remove center console, jack up car, remove retaining clip from on top of ball joint, disconnect under car... pull out! its easyyyyyy

I've got the kartboy shfter and bushings. It's great. The shifter feel went from feeling like I was driving a bus to feeling like I was driving a sports car. And it is very easy to do. It was the first mod I ever did to any car

what about a short thow
without reaching down to the floor
to find the shifter...thats just counter productive

i want a short throw with the stock hight
who makes that
someone needs to come up with a part that's
truly short throw and not just a cut-down stock geometry
shifter

i'ld buy that

That's not crazy AT ALL. They make shifters that actually sit higher than factory with a close to stock or slightly shorter throw, just not for Proteges. Ideally, the shifter should be as close to the wheel as possible. People like tiny short throw shifters for aesthetic purposes only. Function > Form.

AHAHAH Man if u did that swap, u might need a CDL license LOL
(rofl) truck license!!!! Might as well not lower the protege for true 4x4 compliance with the truck shifter (rofl)

Um, ok. It's a track car, not a show car. Who cares what it looks like if it's purpose-built? Oh yeah, ricers. I forgot. Again, function > form.

YES!! THAT IS AWESOME
man that is exactly what i would love to run in the protege
its like 3" from the wheel
...i wonder if i could fab something like that
laugh all you want, hight doesn't=throw

check out the peddles on that integra too
they're all three at the same level
thats my next "home-brew" mod...move that stupid
gas peddle, up and even, with the clutch and brake

I agree with what a few others said... the B&M is pretty much as good as it gets without going custom... it's only a tad shorter (in height) than the stock shifter but the throws are pretty damn short but precise... it'll feel really tight at first and it might even feel bad to you, but given some time to break it in, it'll be smooth as baby bottom once it is!

the B&M sits high enough that I don't have any trouble reaching the shifter quickly whenever I take my right hand off the wheel

I can say the same thing about my TWM shifter. Short enough for me and short throws as well.
To each, their own.
Opinions are like assholes...everybody has one (thumb)

Some people don't feel comfy with short shifter rods and some do. Its just the matter of what you like. If I like something and you don't, i can't brainwash the person so they could like it too, because it doesn't work that way.

Codeman, you're not alone. I plan on buying a short-shifter from either B&M or TWM soon and making an extension for it. Function>Form any day.
