Short shifter

I haven't modded the car in a while, and she's having a birthday coming up. Was thinking of getting a short shifter... is it worth the money? How much shorter is the throw?

I have the TWM short shifter and it's considerably shorter. It takes more effort to shift and it's notchy, but it feels more like a RWD tranny (RX-8, Miata). Make sure that you have a nice heavy shift knob for it. It will make a huge difference.

I bought the B&M and installed it in about 30 min. Make sure you bend the heat shield enough to clear the shifter, and don't over tighten the shifter bolt.
It's definitely worth the money though! If you shop around you can get a good deal on them. I paid 79 shipped for mine. Its about 1-2in shorter and about 30+% shorter through! Makes for quicker shifts and if the Heat shield is out of the way its alot smother.

my kartboy is the shizzy! its pretty low, but i really love it. i drove a friends stock protege a while back, and wholly crap, its like a mac truck. the stock shifter in the msp is shorter than that, but not as low as the kartboy or TWM.

shifter bushing help a lot too!

Actually, I should say that the TWM doesn't feel any lower (if it is, it's minimal), but the throw is shorter. Kartboy bushings, as everyone will agree, help a lot with feel!

i actually just bought one of these, i hope i can install it myself!
The only thing that is a pain in the ass is getting the snap ring around the pivot ball off/on. I bought snap ring pliers just for this, but you will need to use a screw driver, too. That sucker is a PITA.

hmm, it sounds tough. do you think im better off having someone do it for me? or do you think i can do it?

You can do it yourself! Have a friend help you. Buy the snap ring plyers. The only hard part is putting the snapring back in. If one of you use the plyers and the other pushes the ring down and holds it in place it will be a hole lot easyer than doing it yourself!

lol yes thats me. i have other pics i was gonna use of me in more provocative poses..but that just wouldnt be polite! lol

lisa doesnt really count as a chick installing her own stuff....shes like one of the guys, only hott....(hump)

a couple of guys and I installed it at a club "Install meet".. we got it in but the o-ring wouldn't fit.. turns out the B&M is known to not fit on the 5's as easily as the kartboy. In the end, I took it to a local performance shop and had them redo it.. if you decide to do it yourself, make plenty sure that you grease it up REALLY GOOD!!!

ok cool i know about greasing things up lol...ill do it myself, if not i can have some of my friends help me out!
