Ooooops, I was responding to a thread on the first page, forgot that wasn't the LAST page... DUUUUUUUUUH

No the stock knob does not screw on there at all.

1) what does the thing look like after u remove the extension? <br>2)even tho u cant jam the stock knob onto it, u can still install an aftermarket knob right?<br>3) And can the extension be removed by exposing it to flame from something like a cigarette lighter or do I have to get a blowtorch?<br>4) I'm guessing the base but just to be safe, what part of the extension should be heated?<br><br><br>Thanks in advance.

1. It looks like metal covered up by rubber. You can cut the rubber away to reveal the metal shaft. I never got rid of all the rubber so I don't know firsthand EXACTLY what it looks like.
2.Yes you can stick an aftermarket know onto their as long as it not a screw on type.(such as Voodoo) Cause then you will have to thread whats left of the shifter.
3.I have heard you can remove it by exposing it to flame... but it takes longer and I have never done it, so I cant say for sure.
4.The base of the extension. You will recognize it quite easily. Its much larger than the rest of the shifter.

When you say "screw on" you must mean screw on like the stock knob. I was planning to put on a momo, sparco, or a ractive knob. That would be fine right? as long as they arent designed to be "screwed-on". Sorry for being so screwy

Ya I meant the kind that screw on like the OEM knob.

As long as its a universal knob you will be fine.

I just installed the B&M shifter (BMM-45071) and it's exactly the improvement I was hoping for. Shift throw has been reduced by at least 50%.

I'm glad someone mentioned spacers before I bent the heat shield to accomodate the new shifter! I'll pick up the parts for that at the same time I get a replacement O-ring. Broke the stupid thing trying to get the new shifter seated in the housing.

Yes both the shifter and bushings will work on your car. I am 90% sure about the knob as well. As for the boot, you can use the stock one. Thats what I did. Let me know if you need pics.

Like it better without the extension, don't think i'll go with an aftermarket short shifter.

ya i know what ur talking about gizmo, im broke as hell and cant afford any short shift kits. ill settle for the removed extension, its actually not that bad

RazorP5- You don't really need spacers...only a pair of pliers to bend the shield a bit. It's easy the shield is kinda flimsy (actually i bent it by hand, wearing gloves). That's what i did, last week, when i Installed my B&M shifter. I know i said earlier that i wouldn't go with an aftermarket short shifter... but glad i did it.
Great shifter, very well built, nice short throw.

I don't know if bushings would help my problem...it's only when i'm engaging 1st gear, that i feel a certain notchy feeling.

Bend it down (the shield) toward the resonator, but you don't need that much of a bend to clear the bottom of the B&M shifter.
