Shifter Question

Ok i have a standard Protege 5 and i got a questions for some experts out there
i am wondering if when i replace the standard shifter with lets say a B&M short shifter can i use the Mazdaspeed shift knob?
I already know that i can't use it right now because of some sort of ring at the top of the shifter
any help is appricated

the B&M will work with the mazdaspeed shift knob. the TWM shifter will require you to get the mazdaspeed specific shifter to use the MSP knob.
