Shifter knob broke off 2013 Mazda2

Hello! The shifter knob popped off my 2013 Mazda 2 and the plastic covering on the shaft also comes off now. I can put the casing and knob back on and drive but it wont click into place.

I want to know what the mechanism is that connects the shifter knob. is it some kind of clip? should i just order a new knob and clip it in?

I took it to a random mechanic and he told me i just needed to buy a new one. Could I buy this from aliexpress and pop it into place? What are the wires for?
