Setting Up The Turbosmart Dual Port BOV

I've seen a lot of questions about how to properly set-up the Turbosmart Dual Port Blow Off Valve so I thought I would post how I did it. It will take a few trips down the street but I feel that my method to be pretty effective.

I started out with the hardness right in the middle. To set this, you tighten the knob all the way to full hard then loosen it three full turns. With this setting, go for a test drive and listen to the valve’s operation. You should be getting a nice even release of air with a 2nd gear WOT pull (pick a good road for this and watch the speed limit). If you are getting a fluttered release, loosen the valve in quarter turn increments until you hear the right valve release. When you are satisfied, take it out on the highway and go through the gears and listen to the valve (again watch your speed). This is a good time to take note of your max boost pressure if you have a gauge. If everything is set right, all gears should have a nice even release and your max boost pressure should be normal and holding. At this point, you can make minor adjustments to dial it in right where you want it.

Note 1: You only have six full turns of the knob from extreme tight until you see the red indicator mark for max softness.

Note 2: You should get some valve flutter with partial throttle releases.

Note 3: After I installed my Turbo Inlet I had to loosen my valve setting at least two full turns for proper operation.

Hope this helps people out.

Thanks for the write up. As soon as I have some finances I was thinking about getting the Turbosmart Ultimate BOV. Quick question. Do you think I can get this valve and properly adjust it so that it's being used to it's full potential with out any way of monitoring boost (such as dashhawk or a boost gauge)? Or should I invest into a boost gauge before getting a bov? My reason for getting a bov is that I currently have a corksport intake and turbo inlet, and I don't think the stock valve can hold the boost properly.
Btw, Forge valve is not an option.

It can be done without a boost gauge but it is definitely good info to have!

Just picked one up the other day and installed it today.

Under moderate acceleration, should you be able to hear the spring and then a "PSHHHHH?"

Under WOT in 2nd, 3rd, I can hear a clean PSHHHH but a slight "ping" from the spring right before the PSHHHH.

I have no idea whether or not my setting is correct. Can you help me Rich?

you hear a ping? Do you have a turbo inlet? I'd guess that you're set too hard. Where is yours set?

Yea I hear a ping. No turbo inlet, I believe I'm set about 3 1/2 turns in the soft direction away from max hard setting.

So there should be zero ping?

Yea I never heard a ping with this valve. Your setting should be alright. Try opening it up and re seating everything

Okay, I've played around with it all day today and still don't know if I got the settings correct. When its set to hard, the "Ping" (similar to the forge BPV) is very audible and loud, when set to soft (all the way to the red indicators) it still "pings" but not as loud or as long as when its set on hard. When set in the middle, it still does the same thing with the pinging.

I have yet to hear a clear loud burst of air without any pinging.

How do I open it up and reseat everything?

Ok it should definitely not have a ping like the Forge BPV. What I would do is open it up (Turn the knob in the soft direction until it comes off and note that the spring is in tension and it will shoot out if your not careful). Pop the piston out and lube it as well as the gaskets inside the piston housing. The ping you are hearing might be the sound of an un-lubricated valve.

I think Turbosmart suggests a certain type of lubricant but I would think some Mobil 1 automotive greese would do.

No problem!

Note 3 is updated. I ended up loosening my setting two full turns after my turbo inlet install with about a week of driving and making adjustments.

Yeah, I'm gonna be installing my next week. I should be receiving it by some time next week, but I think I'm going to run it full recirc, not 50/50. I've heard few people backfiring from having it and I'm not going to run my daily driver rich. I don't have gauges or anything so I couldn't monitor my crap. I know it will sound better 50/50, but I'll see, what you guys think? Also every what amount of miles should I lubricate my turbosmart?

See my other thread, I'm in the same boat. When I got my turbosmart, SU had already set it to the right tension for our cars. It worked great. I ran for two or three moths without issue. Recently I have occasionally heard the *pop* of a very small backfire. Quite infrequent, maybe once a week and usually with colder weather. I have tightened my cap a quarter turn, and hopefully that will fix it.

I have always had smooth, even, pssssshhhhh release in every gear, with no flutters or pinging.

I am considering recirc, but some folks at work confirmed that the hybrid sound is badass, and it performs very well at holding boost; quick to spool and hit 16 and hold it at 15 psi while you're mashing it, in all gears.

Glad I went with this valve, it's def. mad science.

I freakin love this valve too. I have a Cobb AP on the way and I know the maps call for the stock garbage BPV but damn I'm debating on just keeping the TS installed.
