SELL MSP or UPGRADE

I agree... the 2.4 in the SRT is a beast. However, let's not forget, it's a Dodge product. There's a difference between an engine being strong enough to handle lots of HP and an engine being strong enough to last for 200k miles. Look no further than the typical muscle car for more on that. Since I, along with countless other MSP owners, obviously prefer long-term reliability over sheer power, I'd stick with the mazda engine. BTW... if I won the lotto neither the MSP's or SRT's engine would be under my hood. In fact, nothing would be under my hood. I would have 490hp destroying everything that is good in this world sittin in the "trunk" F430 style.

A few years ago when I bought my car (April of '03) the SRT wasn't even around. Months later, it hit the scene. Though it wasn't quite as good as it is now (I believe the first version lacked an LSD and was slightly less powerful) it was still pretty impressive. I remember kicking myself a bit for not holding out a few more months. (although, since it sort've came out of nowhere, I can't really fault myself on that one.)

Anyway, with all this talk about the MSP vs SRT... well, (sniff) the memories are just rushin back! ooooh the memories!! ... memories of tireless (not literally... tough to go anywhere without tires) comparrisons between the two. Even though the SRT cost a good 4k more, it was still within reach. To think I could've had that type of power for, what would have been, an extra $50/month or so... admittedly, that sort've pissed me off.

Putting some of the things that we've already belabored to the point where the poor horse has since been reincarnated as Britney Spears baby. (s*** just keeps getting worse and worse for mr horse) I won't touch upon any of that. Instead, I'll touch upon another point that's also been beated to a bloody pulp.

Here's, quite simply, what put all of the 'buyer's remorse' to rest years ago. The interior of a car is something that ranks high on my list. If I'm not diggin the styling characteristics, no matter what the car looks like on the outside or how much power it has, I'm not making a deal. There's been numerous posts touting the MSP's kickass interior (at least, for the pricerange it fell within) but nobody, to my knowledge, coughed up any pictures. As they say, pictures are worth a thousands words... so I'll STFU... for now.

and... just for S&G...

I don't know guys.... your car's fast and all but... not feelin the interior.

I'll be nice and stick with the daylight pics.

Last but not least... since, I don't care what anybody says, looks DO matter.... unfortuneatly. Here's a little side-by-side comparro of the two. To be fair, I deliberately went out of my way to find, what I thought at least, was the best angle for the SRT-4. (other than the front and back... which are pretty sweet) Also, though this orange dodge gave it looks like s*** in person, it doesn't look half bad in this picture.

There's probably better angles... but this should do.

While looks are subjective (and performance numbers generally are not) Even the most die-hard SRT-4 fan should admit that the MSP has the edge in the looks dept. On the flipside, I'm sure most MSP owners would LOVE to have the type of power and potential an SRT has out of the box. As everyone and their uncle knows by now (thanks to this thread) both cars offer different things to different people. I'm glad to see everyone's playing nice now. (no thanks to me) Who knows? maybe one day there will be a car that offers the best of both worlds. Hell... based on the pictures above, it looks like the MSP just ****** up the SRT so... maybe that day will come sooner than we think! hahaha jussssssssssst kidding

IIRC isn't the boost gauge an "upgrade" for the sti as well???
last i knew it was but i can't say i've looked into it for the 05/06 model. it wasn't a cheap upgrade either considering what an aftermarket one costs

Actually the SRT4 once lowered, looks way better...

True, but I've never like the SRT-4's stance. Or at least the overall design that combined with the stance puts the ass end so high up. I considered both cars before buying my MSP, and frankly, this was the one thing I just couldn't get past. They look like the rear springs need to be cut in half. I don't know how peeps see anything but a semi out the back window. I've seen in the mags that some of the writers have noticed this "high rear roll center" too. It might be that with the right setup most of it could be eliminated. Dunno.

Oh, our boost gauge was eliminated in favor of power rear window actuators. :D

Yeah, but, see, don't you think the person in question can form his own opinion on whether something looks good? What happens if you tell someone who hates eating chicken why chicken tastes good?

I've seen some with better wheels (which pretty much means any other wheels besides the stocks), lowered springs and of course, removal of that hideous basket handle spoiler. The car actually looks pretty good... you still have those ugly black side mirrors and old school antennae to deal with... but it's definitely a huge improvement in the styling dept. I considered doing this... figured if I couldn't have the only SRT in town, I might as well have the only good looking one. Then I added up the additional cost (wheels are mucho $$$) and it didnt' make much sense. hell, the "final" price would be around $25k. and that's before you even put in a decent stereo... and that shift knob! lol not to nitpick but, after living with the MSP's shifter (I swapped my 03 in favor of the 03.5) there's just no way in hell I could live with the one in the SRT. Did Dodge take that from the Ram parts bin or what?

But yeah... other than all that... it's a pretty cool car. Definitely dig the seats. that's one area mazda seriously dropped the ball. although I like how the orange stiching on the seats and steering wheel match my car's paint, the seats have less lateral support than my freakin honda element! WTF is up with that $hit?

umm.... I'm a vegitarian.

I actually like the clean, utilitarian look of the SRT... But in actuality, looks DON'T matter, when I'm INSIDE the car DRIVING it, focusing on the ROAD, I could hardly care what my exterior or interior looks like.

Honestly, I didn't buy the MSP for its looks. I wanted a WRX at first, but then realized that the insurance was pretty high and it was tough to find one at a low price... So I was perusing through car reviews and I found an article on SCC that perked my ears because it said the MSP's handling rivals the Integra Type R's. And then I found that the MSPs were going for much cheaper than the WRX yet had sub-30k miles, so I quickly snatched one up. See, I didn't buy the MSP for its looks, and rather, I thought (and still think) its design is rather bland and non-aggressive. Still, I love the car.

ya the tit and silv are a little dull at times but they can look the nicest outta the bunch with a little work. i think the blue wins hands down, then orange, black, tit, yell, sil

Yeah I have seen some pretty nice srt's, one that lives by me is black, lowered, w/ some black rims and chrome lip, supposed to be a high 12's car. But yeah, Sabishii, all of your posts have seemed like they are more against the mazdaspeed and for the srt..why didnt u get an srt?
