Goodyear announced last year that it had obtained a $1.5 million grant from the Department of Energy, dedicated to tire development. The company is focusing on self-inflating tires, which it will begin screening in the field next year. There have been self-inflating tire systems before, but Goodyear's is exclusive in that the device is entirely contained within the tire itself.
