Seen: 2010 CX-9 with working trunk taillights?!

I so hate the fact the red "taillight" lenses that extend onto the trunk portion of my '10 CX-9 that I've contemplated mod-ing it to make them light.

So I was amazed to find myself behind a white CX-9, apparently 2010, but couldn't tell trim level, that had LEDs in the trunk taillight portion. I actually followed them under an overpass so that I could convince myself that it wasn't a trick of sunlight (rare in Seattle, but it was that one day).

It seemed to be the same brightness as the outer taillights, and didn't brighten with the brakes.

Anybody know anything about a mid-year change that puts wiring into that area?

Mine is a 2007 Touring and although the red part of the lens in the tailgate is not LED lit, it does light up when parking lamps turn on with a regular filament bulb.

So you mean like a light pipe? This didn't look like that; it looked like individual LEDs.

I just take a look on my 2010 GT.
It looks like for LED but there is no bulb or LED there.
It is just a passive housing except reverse bulb.

Definately only on the 2010 and up models, because I just took a look at my 2007 Touring and there is definately a "194" peanut type filament bulb in the housing that is mounted on the hatch. Obviously the housing mounted on the quarter panel is LEDs.
