I see that mazda sells seat covers for the 5 but will they block the side impact bag that come out of the front seats. If you can use seat covers will any work or do they need to come from Mazda. Asked the parts guy at my dealership and he did not have a clue.

The Mazda-made covers have an open edge to allow the airbags to deploy. Most third-party seat covers are like pillow cases that slide on, with no openings for airbags or armrests. As expensive as the Mazda ones are they are much better quality and fit than the third-party covers. Also, you get all 6 seats and the armrests too.

I believe they are only available in black. However, I find that they blend well with the sand interior because of all the black trim - door panels, dash etc. I have a mica red/sand 5.

Wow,really, that is a GREAT question! I never would have thought of that. Thanks for asking!

???

I think the side impact curtain type air bag which explains the bulge on the side of the ceiling / head liner. Never heard of any coming from the seat itself, correct me if I'm wrong.

Take a look at your seat back. There should be a tag sticking out of the seam that says Airbag or SRS or something like that. There is a curtain airbag for your head, but the front seats have them for side protection also.
