Seafoam?

I've seen some videos on youtube of guys seafoaming their p5. Could I get some educated opinion? Will this help with the EGR problems?

I did the Seafoam on mine right when I got it. It did improve the idle slightly, but I don't think it even cleans up the EGR valve and the port to be honest, it's not that great of a product.

If you have an EGR problem, removing the EGR and cleaning it is really going to be the best solution. I too am a little seafoamed out...it's uber expensive and I'm not sure I see an appreciable difference after foaming. Plus, I'm getting up in miles and don't want to expose my seals to lots and lots of cleaning.

i seafoamed at 100,000 and cleaned egr gas mileage and perforance came back would recomend to anyone

seafoams expensive???

i know its not i think it ran me 7 or 8 bucks for the can, im just trying to figure out why he thinks it costs so much

well if you think bout it 8 dollars for what it does is cheap. lmo and it takes not even 5 mins to do granted if you dont see any improvement after it might seem like a waste but either way it cleans all your vaccum ports and s*** and the other half that goes in the tank cleans the fuel delivery part so either way you look its doing something

The way our engines run so rich at WOT means a lot of carbon build up. Add some worn seals and increased oil through the PCV and you need a seafoam cleaning...

Do it.

seaform is wonderful...i put it in my gas and brake booster hose every other oil change..and in my oil like every 3rd or 4th oil change....

i mean i am the kinda of guy that will run nothing but chevron and shell gas and will change the spark pugs and air filter every time i do the oil..

its just a little piece of mind.....plus if i take care of Layla she will do the same back

I just seafoamed my P5 today... Wow. I haven't seen that much smoke ever. I've used it on all my other vehicles, and when I restarted my car after letting it sit white smoke poured out like crazy... Took a good 5 miles of driving to get rid of it. She runs like a champ now though.

I've got 6 years and 78K miles of smooth and steady RPM and have never cleaned my egr nor will I thanks to frequent seafoaming usage. Through the pcv and in the tank has worked for me.

Northern Tool still sells it for less than $7.

The first post in this thread seems to make sense to me and is part of the reason I have rethought my seafoam opinion. I'm not saying that it doesn't ever make a difference, but anyone who has ever removed and try to clean an EGR valve knows that it takes a lot more than a little soaking...there's tons of scrubbing and resoaking and all that, and I just have a hard time believing that letting this stuff run through the engine once, soak for a few minutes and burn off will really make a big difference in dissolving carbon. But, my car is idling rough right now, so maybe I'll do it and see if it in fact does make any difference. In the past I think the difference was more imagined than anything, but maybe not this time.

As for $8...sure it's not a lot, but it's a lot for a fuel system treatment (most run much less than that) and why spend money on stuff that isn't really making a difference?
