Scoobs Build Thread

Will the engine fit in the 2? That is with the mounting points and everything? I am very curious to see the results of this build. Sounds very cool!

Mounting points are the same, almost too easy :) Some lil issues but nothing too hard to resolve.

Look, this is a Rally car FWD with a 2.0l under the hood

Oh god the temptation maybe next summer I look forward to your updates :)

Next summer you will see wheels, dampers, skid plate, Hella Black Magic 500 driving lamps and CBE + race pipe.

Summer 2015 is when I can start thinking of swapping the 1.5l for a 2.0l....
1st year
-Will be to get a used Mazda3 and remove all I need from the car
-Get the parts and rebuild the engine

2nd year
-Finding a solution for the transmission, LSD + Rebuilding the Mazda3 unit or
-Finding a Mazdaspeed3 transmission
-Getting it in the Mazda2...

Or, I save money and get a mazdaspeed 3 3rd gen

Mazdaspeed 3 is great. But power in a light car is ALWAYS better. Your 2 with 50 to 60 horses more will be more fun than a monstrous speed 3

This is why I sold my Speed3, I found the 2 more fun and a lil more power would make it perfect. Speed3 big problem is the fact it's FWD, an AWD Speed3 with a rear diff set up like the EVO X would make it the best sport compact on the market.

So stoked to see what this build is going to come to, keep it up! i cant touch my 2 until fall 2015, so im living vicariously through everyone else on the forums... great work sir!!

I got a friend who really want to tackle a turbo solution to my MZR1.5l. We will look into this soon but I still think the NA 2.0l MZR is a better option for the 2.

Also I'm thinking of getting a bike soon, this may affect my build a bit. To be smart and save my money I should build the 2 and forget the bike lol but I want it all.

I may buy a Honda Grom 125 or the new 2014 CBR300R in 2015 to play around a bit :)

I'm looking for a tuning solution for the 2.0l with 12:1 compression and Cosworth 8500rpm.

Got to see what injectors is needed and where I can find my parts also. The Cosworth head is out of question, at 3,000$ it's a lot of money.

Tried to get a Cosworth cross flow for my MGB back 20 years ago and they were still $3,000. and that was for the tractor designed Kent motor. I think you are still better off going the turbo route. Think about the grip level available for XXX Hp for your build...Even if you can get 220hp out of a swap, how much usable HP will get to the pavement and NOT go up in smoke? Unless you can get/design a great TCS module or put an LSD in the car, anything over 150wHP is going to be wasted.

Small turbo, add 50hp , put in the LSD and get it as light as you can stand to drive it. Hell of a lot less work then trying to mate and configure 2 different PCM and harnesses, and rework the front subframe to fit the monster in there.

Ok, so what about internals. Can they handle some boost, I'm afraid a bit but if it's alright than it would save me a lot of money and time :)

I think I will build this thing still but I'll try to get the most of the 1.5l as NA.

So tuning, header, exhaust, cams will go on the engine. I'll get the suspension parts that I'm missing also but nothing to crazy

Ok, I'm going to build a 2.0l MZR for the 2. The swap will give the power the 2 needs, about 200hp. I got a pm from At Power about their intake and tuning solution and I found almost all the parts for the build.
1-engine from used Mazda3 (to be bought)

2-Forged pistons, rods, crankshaft and fasteners http://www.gp-werks.com/20L-Rebuild-Kit-Supertech-Pistons-Eagle-Rods-GP-7073.htm

3-Forged camshaft from Cosworth http://www.gp-werks.com/Camshafts_c187.htm

4-At Power intake/ tuning they convert this for the MZR http://beta.atpowerthrottles.com/pr...-p-93?osCsid=61f7e5f66622691e8b404f34ae2856b9

+ tuning solutions from who knows where :)

5-Injectors http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/...duratec-mazda-mzr-20l-23l-0111- p-146210.html

and all the other parts needed to be found

If it bolts on I will, the torque wont be too high and I found a LSD for the 2's transmission. I found a stronger clutch/pressure plate also.

This build will take a while, I will focus on the 1.5l and swap over my girlfriend's car when I'll have the engine ready to put in. The beauty of having 2 Mazda2's is that parts don't get wasted, they get swapped to the next car lol

I'm wondering about the CS b-spec race car, what they are using for suspension parts/ set-up?

I think so also, so it should be a easy swap. I can only imagine the sound of this beast at 9.000rpm, it will scare a few when they get past by a mazda2 lol

If its a "legal" car, which I think it is...They can only run the approved Mazda Speed kit available only from Mazda (or Tripoint). Although there are 2 versions, but I believe they use the same struts, just different spring rates and sizes.
