Scion HU in Protege'?

New to this forum. I have an 03 Protege' and the stock HU is on the fritz. I have the HU from my Scion tC and would like to know if there is any way to instal it in the Protege'. Thanks.

I'm more familiar with Toyota products which usually have easier HU removal. No idea of how to get the Mazda HU out or if the Scion would even work. Fingers crossed

you need some special keys, or really just like 4 long skinny-ish rods. there are a few holes that are slightly concealed but you basically stick the keys in there and pull it out. I'm pretty sure you can buy the keys for just a few dollars at walmart or something. an dI dont think you'd be able to put the scion one in with out making a custom wiring harness. I mean, you could do it. but you'd need to look at the pin-out and figure a way to attach your wires to the plug. plus then there might be fitment issues...

why not just buy an aftermarket stereo? I'm sure that there are a handful you can get for pretty cheap.

Since I have the Scion unit already might as well try to use it. I also have the line in for the back of the unit so I can play my mp3 player in the car. This is a not my primary means of transport and it will be handed down to my daughter in a couple years.

by all means, go for it then! I'm sure it can be done. it just may be somewhat of a hassle. I'd want to make sure I could get the deck to fit in the din securely before I started wiring it, though.

I don't think it will fit ...however the main thing i'll say is be careful when you take the radio surround out, be VERY careful with the HVAC controls as they come undone easily and then don't work right and its a major PITA to get them working again

Lol yeah i broke mine the first time i pulled the radio out and rode around with nothing but defrost for like a year hahaha

just thinking about it... I have a stock HU from a 1999 protege es. I just saw it today under my bed. its a cd player...? I dunno if it would fit for sure or not though.
