Scariest Moment!

alright, so yesterday i was driving home from college to go home for the weekend. It was a fairly nice day out for april in Michigan, and i am in a little transition section of the highway and i am kinda in the middle of no where, halfway in between mt. pleasant and lansing if you know where that is at. Anyway driving like normal, then all of a sudden my tachometer drops to zero, i look down only to see my oil light turn on and then i glance over to my water temp. gauge and that was shooting through the roof...i started to get really worried as i pulled the car over to the side of the highway, i check under the hood to see that the radiator and reservoir were still full, i look under the car to see if there was fluid leaking, nothing. I call my grandfather, and he said that last time i got my oil change which was like 800 miles ago, that i might not have gotten a proper seal on my oil filter and i had a slow drip of oil....so i check the dip stick to see that it is pretty dry....my car got towed to the nearest car repair shop...but before this happened we added like 3 quarts of oil to see if it would just start right up if i added oil...does anyone have any clue as to what this could be? the tow guy said when he leaned over that he couldn't hear my fuel pump activating when i tried to start it up...the engine hasn't ceased and it still tries to start up, the temp is just really high...so i am thinking that maybe mazda has a safety sensor that will kill the engine when something like this happens....i dunno just an idea...if anyone has any suggestions that would be greatly appreciated...

Your car will not shut off if the oil level is low, it would be a nice feature tho, but it does not exsist. Your car will keep running until it seizes up if there was no oil so that is not an issue in your case.
When you noticed the oil light come on and temp needle go off the end did the car stuggle to run? or did it quit right away?

You won't hear the fuel pump, so I doubt that's it. Did you hear any strange noises? So you have no oil in there at all? Have you checked the fuses in the car and under the hood? There has been someone that had one under the hood come loose and caused his car to shut down.

it stalled....on the highway going about 60 miles per hour....so it was kinda freaky....the tow guy was the one that mentioned the fuel pump....i just got the news and it turns out that my header(i have the obx) melted my 02 sensor wires and i guess one of those wires runs to my main engine fuse and i guess apparently i blew that fuse....basically the car shut down on me, no warnings what so ever, it just shut down, the oil light came on first then temp gauge shot through the roof....but the shop i had it towed to got it all fixed up....and i guess it is running, and i plan on picking it up tomorrow so i will keep my fingers crossed that everything is okay

it sounded like it was something electrical, good to hear its all fixed.
