2012 Mazda 2 Touring Liquid Silver
Just this week I've seen 3 brand new 2s out there in Seattle -- hopefully sales will pick up with gas over $4 again. I've read that sales for Ford, Toyota, and Dodge have picked up due to people wanting smaller more efficient cars -- it makes sense Mazda should get a bump too.

Except I don't know why they advertise the 2 with such low gas mileage numbers, I consistently beat those by quite a bit, and I hardly hypermile.

sell it with harder tires, change the gearing so it will epa at 40 and they'd sell like hot cakes when advertised...but no...mazda wanted it more performance oriented and thats hurting the sales to the fuel economy masses.

I don't know what the EPA does to get those numbers, but as has been said before, the 2 is HIGHLY under rated for MPG's. I've never managed worse than 33, and if anyone can get low MPG on a car its me (this is the 1st car I've had where I've actually acheived the mpg rating). Lately I am easily getting over 40 combined (I've been getting my right foot to better cooperate with my wallet lately, thanks to the trip computer). On the other hand, the new impreza I was thinking about before I bought the 2 seems to be getting significantly worse MPG's than the EPA ratings according to the forum users (nasioc). Mazda needs to do something about this...the under rated EPA number are surely scaring off potential buyers.

Even with the wider/stickier tires I was hitting 30+ on our shop 2 before it went race car. Run that tire pressure up a few more psi and 40 should be doable without too much trouble for anyone in a 2.
