Satellite Radio installation not working

Hi,

I've had 2 people try to install satellite radio in my car, and they have both given up. Nothing happens when you press the SAT button.

I have a Mazda 3 that was manufactured in 03/08. I bought the satellite radio installation kit from mazdagear.com at the link below.

Questions:

1. What category does my car fit in? 8 or 8.5?
2. Can someone verify if I have the correct installation kit for the year and month my car was made in?

If the interior trim pieces are silver, you have an '08. If they are a glossy black, you have an '08.5.

If you have white needles on your gauges, and a Mp3 capable HU you have a '08.5.

There is a different SAT unit for the '08.5+ models, so just make sure you have the right one.

Alright I know I have the appropriate part numbers (verified this with Mazda). Now I went back and looked at the work that had been done by the previous two installers who tried to connect this. I believe they may have hooked up the CAN (+) and CAN (-) wiretaps incorrectly.

In the instructions it references the PJB J-04 to tap into the CAN +/- wires. However, When I look at the PJB there is J-04 is not there. So I guess one of the people decided that the CAN +/- was used for powering the system and connected the CAN + to 12V and the CAN - to ground (checked with a multimeter across his connection). However, it seems that he first tried to connect the CAN lines to the Gr/Yel (+) and the Bl/yel (-) in the display header as well. I don't know if he tried this after connecting them.

So my first question is since J-04 is not in my car (I can provide pic if needed) where exactly is the CAN +/- lines supposed to be connected. Second, since they were connected to 12 V and gnd what are the chances the unit is broken now?

Thanks!

Ok, so I found J-04 and there was electrical tape covering the proper wires indicating that they had tried to do the wire tap there. So I guess my question now is what is the probability the receiver unit is broke?
