Salt

We had less than an inch of snow last Friday, but the roads were heavily salted. The CX-5 was a mess. Looked like a crusty gray pretzel all weekend. I noticed that there was salt up inside the door, below the door seal, behind the plastic trim along the bottom. We've had some rain today but will need to watch this when I get to the car wash to see if it comes out with an undercarriage wash. IMG_0221.webpIMG_0220.webp

Are you saying that salt has permeated beyond the rubber gasket door seal and is where it should not normally be?

Didn't see any inside of the seal but I'm not used to seeing salt up this far behind the bottom of the door. My previous car was silver, so maybe I just didn't see it as well. The salt really is visible on the gray.

Judging from the second image you posted, it appears that you may have gone over a big puddle of salt/snow/water. I can try it next time it snows in Boston.

I'm wondering if the installation of mud flaps will remedy the situation.

Had the same on my artic white in the UK,I think the plastic skirt tends to hold the dirt as well.
Always wipe down anyway there when washing, but the snow last week combined with salt gave the same effect on my cx5

"I've got one word for that-criminal! Shame on Maryland. "

People around here are nuts when it snows. I think they were prediciting more, but we ended up with very little. But it was coming down at rush hour. They closed the schools two hours early. If there is snow in the forcast, its the lead story on the news and the groceries need extra milk, bread and TP. I've seen the state pre-treat the roads and we end up getting nothing. We occasionally get hit hard (back-to-back blizzards in one week a few winters ago - close to 40-inches on the ground) but usually very little. I grew up in NJ but after almost 30 years down here, I've learned to tolerate the lunacy.

Southern Ontario is even worst with the salt
My black CX-5 is essentially a dirt gray
I don't want to wash it since its suppose to rain these few days
