S2k to MS3 - finally.

there was a motor mount recall

Sorry for being OT, but does that completely fix it? I've heard complaints from other drivers about this issue but no one seemed to speak of the solution.. It seems strange that people still complained about it if this recall fixed it

they fixed the mount so it doesnt break, it wasnt the rmm, it was one of the side mounts that failed. people replace the rmm because the motor does backflips under the hood with all the torque it puts down

Thanks for all the answers!

I've driven it for on commute since mon (it's about 35 mi each way), in both open and traffic-y conditions. A few more obs:

1. The seats are decent, but not as snug as I'd like. I do like the lumbar support, but am finding that the seat doesn't go quite as low as I'd like (for some reason I'm getting some leg pain - I think it's the angle the seat puts my foot in relation to the pedals). I already adjusted it all the way down.
2. I took my friend for a short ride - he likes it, but mentioned that it didn't handle quite as flat as my S, which isn't surprising.
3. I like the space in the back; I don't have to play tetris with my stuff everytime I use it (the s2k has 5 cu ft of space).
4. The cabin stays roughly the same decibel level at higher speeds, which is nice. I was surprised to find that there was a decent amount of float in the suspension when I was going 85 mph, given the ride at lower speeds.

Here's another ques: will a rear mm help with lower rpm shifts (say, 3-4k?), or just higher ones?

In general, I like it, and am still learning about it.

It's been fun reading your posts as I have an uncle with an S2000 I've driven a few times and ridden in several times.

I have around 9K on my 09 MGM speed and I can say without a doubt you will get better at shifting it after awhile, but it's never going to be like the S2K and I agree you should wait awhile and see what you think after about 5K miles. I plan to get a CPE mount this spring and see how well it works.

Two primary things I noticed:
  1. Torque - the speed has it in spades over the S2K
  2. Torque steer - what you'll notice when you head out to have some fun is the way the car pulls out of corners compared to the S2K. The FWD and the additional torque can take you from understeer to oversteer. Takes some getting used to especially if you're used to the rotation of a RWD car.
  3. Torque
  4. No need to wind it to 8k anymore to get moving because of the torque.

These are just driving observations because I haven't had the pleasure of owning and living with an S2K in order to experience the differences in utility for example.

I think you're going to like owning it.

I would run 235/40/18 rubber on the RX8 rims.
