Uh, somebody is an idiot... New shortblock to fix a bearing??? Idiot... Not you Kirstin, the poster on the WRX forum. Obviously knows nothing about the Miata or has a shop that likes to **** him.

The only problems I'm aware of that require a shortblock (read ENGINE) replacement was the short-nose crank problem on the early NA's (90 to mid-91).

I guess I missed this...

The 99 year model only had a recall for a #4 main bearing (or referred to as a thrust bearing in the TSB) on a certain range of VINs (early models). If you had an affected engine, trust me you felt a pretty wild vibration. The tolerances were too small, thus the crank was allowed to hop around like a mexican jumping bean. I have an affected motor (free one that was the first motor we planned to use to build our turbo motor...woops! glad it was free) and can take pics of the horrendous damage to the crank, block, and main caps.

i guess I can see where "thrust bearing" can turn to "throwout bearing" through the grapevine. :D

Dan should really get on aim....

greg I am not able to chat on IM when I am at work, firewalled. However I was able to get to my home machine via port 22 and then kick off gaim from there.

I just need to get freeNX working, then I will be able to log on.
