I didnt mean to say they are the
EXACT same size. He said they LOOK HUGE. I was just pointing out that they are not that much bigger than our OEM 205s. Not only that...but who knows what size tires are in those pics. For all we know they are 225/40s!!

225s are much bigger than 205s that's why they have them in BIGGER sizes. Keep to the facts. The 225s give a bigger footprint and handle better than 205s.

That's why we have them......you understand this concept? (enguard)

Those tires are 235/40/18 but the correct tire would be 225/40/18 if you want to keep your speedo accurate.

Correct about speedo. The point of the discussion is that RX-8s run 225/45x18s, way too high. The 235/40x18 are only 8mm bigger (OK) in overall diameter than the 225/40x18, the 225/45x18 are 23mm bigger (NOT OK) than the 205/50x17. Who wants to accelerate slower anyway...!?

not to bust any bubles but...if you plan on getting thise nice looking rims remember that they are larger in diamater than stock. meaning that with the increased rotational mass of the rims Vs the stockers you are gonna slow the acceleration down and increase the braking distance. These made the 6i slower than normal. if you don't care if they do this then just take it into account when you have to brake and or decide you wanna pass the car up in front of you while there are cars approaching in the lane you choose to pass the person in. going from a 6.5 wide rim to a 8 inch wide rim means more rubber to the ground when turning left and right also not shure if I saw it here but offset is +50 for those.

Yup I agree with all you said and its very valid. It will slow your car down and increase your braking distance. If you are a performance freak and every second counts then I wouldn't up size and in fact would down size to 16" rims. But with all that was said, I really doubt that because of these wheels you won't be able to pass a car that you normally would have passed with the stock rims. My point is if the car won't let you pass and has the engine to back it up, then you wouldn't have pass that car anyways with the stockers.

With a wider diameter, the car will look better and also have more grip to the road with more rubber contacting the road. It will probably mean your gas mileage goes up a little but who wants Toyota Echo bicycle tires anyways? (doh)

These RX8 rims weigh the same as the stock 17"s so in summary unless you are a peformance freak, then its not a bad upgrade.

yes for looks on everyday yes 17-18's for perforance 15's. I wanted the 18's but I settled with the 17's. my car had 16's stock. difrance is noticable cause 17's weigh same but increased rotation and the tires come with 16's are better than the ones on 17's. They give the base models better tires than the touring models? whats mazda doing? I'm just saying they aren't gonna be like 18's cromed with spinners but you may notice it from a stop if you are flooring it or hit brakes w or w/o abs

ask a RX-8 owner who bought snow tires for his 8 inch wide 18's how much 1 single(individual)snow tire cost before mouning/balance/stem

Who's car is that? Is it lowered any? If so, what springs?

I will be wrapping my RX8 wheels with 225/40/18 Toyo Proxes 4s.
