rx-8

Insurance - 61/mo for me - cheaper the my p5
Gas Mileage - So??? it is a rotary sports car. They are not know for their mileage ever. It didn't slow down my decision.
Torque - Why do you need torque when you can rev it to 9K. It may not jump off the line like a WRX, but it will blow it away in a road course with the right driver

(burnout)
Whoa!Calm down man!didn't mean to get you worked up!!That's just my preference.

not worked up - no worries - just stating my 2 cents as well...

I would post a (flame) if I was worked up :D

I Test Drove One

its a great car, but there are a few flaws in it...

-stock tires...not very good in the rain at all;)
-first gear is weak, until you hit the Higher RPM Range...
-the CD player doesn't really open like it looks...:(

the good things were....
-Flashy car
-great handeling
-AWESOME Exhaust Note!!
-HID's (still small but can be worked on;))

it is funny how everyone thinks they are so slow, we took our shop caar out to the strip here in san diego , with only a cat back exhaust I was smoking 350z and mustang's ( 2003 GT) with ease I had to race the guy in the mustang a few times he just could'nt believe the rx8 could beat him as for a MSP I can take them out with ease the 8 was getting 1.9-2.0 60' all day long ( with a 5500-6000 clutch drop) I have yet to see a protege that could take it. The next mods will be a canzoomer stage II ecu and test pipe which will get me another 30+ hp after that a port job , we are looking to get 300-330 all rotor HP out of it- chris

Because torque is exactly what you need around a road course!

you'd be surprised at the amount of people who hear one negative thing from a hater or someone who wasn't ALL-OUT impressed and then perpetuate rumors of ill-performance when they haven't even driven the car!

Then there are those who try to crunch numbers from friggin magazines they read or those who do test drive, but have V8-instilled fear of high RPMS, where the rotary really sings.

i totally agree, you have to drive the car to judge it...i love it. and for all those people out there that think it is a drag car, thats not what its for, its for the track

Hey Diane,
Here lately my MSP has just kinda gone down the drain(tranny gone) so last weekend I went to Craig & Landreth mazda and asked about trading for an RX8. Well without my car there they offered me 15k sight unseen. That puts me at about 650 a month with 2k down. I drove it again and my thoughts have changed about the car. Its really a nice car but its not torquey like my msp but decent. Ill probly get it next week when my car is done. I like the red with the blk/red leather. It was so pimp. With allllllll the options its about 36k. But man did I look good in it. My pussy rating would probly hit 12 on a 10 scale.

It's definitely smmoooth. You're doing 120 before you know it.

Totally sucks off the line, though. I did a 6k clutch dump and it would barely get going.

Most of the reviews I've read, people are getting between 13 and 16 mpg. That's just not good enough for a daily driver. Add to that the payment and cost of insurance, it's definitely NOT a practical car.

Doesn't mean I don't want one, though. 8)

I thought about it. I really did. Ended up getting the 3 instead. That extra $12,000 just wasn't worth it to me.

I actually canned the idea of getting an rx-8 yesterday after trying to sit in one. I whacked my head getting in and out of both front seats. I also found myself feeling rather cramped in shoulder room (I am a pretty broad, but short guy) in both front seats. I also was hitting my thigh on the steering wheel. Amazingly I was very comfortable in the back seats however. Too each his own. Between the poor fit for me, and the fact that I live in New England where snow and salt will attack my car most of the year, I am going a different route. That said I loved my test drive in the new 3 and will likely be getting one of those as my next car. I also signed up for Mazda Rev It Up today and hope to really put the 3 to a test when the show comes to town in May. I can't wait. Should be fun.
