RX-7 BBS "wire mesh" wheels on Protege 5

I got them on today ;)

Good fit, and with the wider 205 tires and the 40mm offset it sure makes the car look . . . . MEANER!

I like the ride much better as well - Not as harsh. No doubt mostly due to the 55 series sidewalls, but the fact that they're a good bit lighter probably doesn't hurt either. The new wheels with new tires were 128 pounds for the set of 4, while the OEM wheels with 1/2 worn tires were 140 pounds - Could probably add another 3 or 4 if the tires were new.

I LOVE the look - Will post a pic tomorrow, if the drizzle outside lets up.

The rain let up, but the car still needs a BATH!

I found a good used set of 4 on-line for $295. Add $35 shipping, and $50 to have the centerbore of the wheels machined to fit the P5 hub. I polished the lips myself, and clearcoated them.

Tires are Bridgestone RE-910's in 205/55-15 and were $78 each from the TireRack.

dude, those wheels look cool. oh, and when did you do the 4x4 conversion? :D maybe next you should get that beast lowered!

I wonder if the "FD" rims off of a 3rd Gen Rx7 would fit our cars as they did my old Probe GT... Hmmmm....

Don, it looks great! What are you going to do with your old wheels/tires?... I might be looking for some... *hint* :)

I'll likely sell them, and will probably make you a pretty good deal too. Might even talk me into meeting you halfway, so there'd be no shipping.

from what i understand, the bolt pattern is the same, but i am not sure on the offset. plus, those wheels are 8 inches wide!

Likely you'd also have to machine the center hub, as I did.

That makes the whole operation a somewhat risky venture, as if they don't work on your P5, then they're no longer good to use on an RX-7 anymore either.

You can clearly see in the pic below how much had to be machined out of the centerbore on my RX-7 wheels to get them to fit onto the P5's much bigger hub - I think the measurements were about 60 mm to start, and 67 mm when the machining was done, but we actually just measured the P5 hub, and machined them to fit it.

Yeah, it would probably be more trouble that it is worth for the 3rd gen. wheels. A friend of mine had some on his 96' Probe GT and they looked great. I keep coming back to look at this thread, those wire style wheels look pretty damn good. Well, I think the P5 being silver has something to do with that too... LOL

The ride height is fine, as it's our "daily driver" and makes frequent long trips. We came home yesterday with a 7 foot long cabinet strapped to the rack

I have my own "fun car" to piddle with - A "like new" '94 Miata R package with 35K on it :)

It's not "slammed" either, but it'll run circles around anything which is ;)
