Rough shifting.

Has anyone else experienced difficulty shifting?

For example - stop and go traffic, pumping the clutch and going into 1st, sometimes it won't shift. Other times when down shifting, going 10MPH or less and shifting into 1st I feel the gears clunking as if the clutch pedal isn't down.

I keep it in a garage and no oil leaks and the reservoir if full.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

It is supposed to do that.

It limits you putting the car into first if you are moving too fast so you dont damage it. Most cars/trucks do this and when you come to a stand still or very close to it you can move into first like butter.

Other times I have also noticed that if you pump the clutch or something that 1st will lock out so I just release the clutch and press again then its fine. My tacoma did this for moving into reverse so with one pump of the clutch it was fine.

sometimes at a stand stil first wont go in and i hold the clutch and try to get in first then i tap the gas..it frees up and goes right in

1st has been giving me a problem once in a while from a stop. Seems if I let off the clutch and try again it corrects, glad to know its not just mine.

This is normal with many manuals, just pump and try again. It happens to me sometimes.

An important consideration that many people overlook is seating position, which can affect the shift quality more than they think. You should not have to stretch your leg out to push the clutch in. If you do, then adjust the seat a few clicks forward.

yea when i first had my car i tried slouching like my other cars ive had and it didnt work out....quick shifting was going horribly and DD was bad i sit close and upright now

3rd is a rough gear sometimes when shifting fast. No other gear ever gives me problems. I also sit really close to the wheel, makes me feel like I'm more in control.

sometimes first wont go in from neutral when the light turns green. i just put it in second and then back into first and go.

just pump the pedal. it should work. if you are moving it wont go into first, there is a lock on first.

I'm telling you guys, it can be adjusted out.

Ever since I got my car back from the engine falling out, 3rd gear has become a non-issue. It has to be due to either the bolt working correctly, or more likely they carefully tuned the linkages. Either way, I'm greatful, because it was the one thing about the car I hated (other then the engine falling out, of course.)

yeah I first started having the problems with 3rd gear it was the only thing I didn't like and it annoyed the hell outta me.Then 2nd started doing it . eventually 2nd completely gave out wont stay in under load . Mazda is ordering 2 parts to fix my tranny they said. I hope the shifting problems go away...

I'll update when I get it back should be the 1st they said.
