guys help me out please. i was riding around tonight when all of a sudden i came up to a stop light. at idle my rpms were jumping anywhere from 500 to 1000rpms i recently did i tune up and have no idea when the problem might be. so your guys input would help thanks

that would be the first place you would look where would be the second do you think it could be the fuel filter cuz it seems to be worse when it is low on fuel

try cleaning the IAC too, it's easy to get to and it was the source of my bad idle!!

there really isn't a replaceable fuel filter on the protege/protege5. i mean, you can rip out the gas tank to clean/replace the little filter on it, but odds are that it won't be the problem.

^^ you don't have to rip out the tank.. just the fuel pump.
yeah but there isn't a filter on the fuel pump. the filter (or sock) is inside the gas tank (which in most all cases will never have to be replaced.)

You can just flip the back seats and there is an access patch right there.

Check everything else first - before pulling the fuel pump - filter 'sock' is attached to it.

Very Rarely is it the fuel filter or pump for our cars ('whew'!;))

i am running the NGK Spark Plug: Plug No. BKR5EIX-11
Iridium IX Plug;

do you think the plug got hot enough to make the contact shorter what kind of plugs do you all recommend to run that work the best

is it still idling rough right now? I think it may be the vtcs screws that possibly got loose and damaged one or more of your plugs or just closed the gap up real nicely therefore you'll need a new sparkplug but check before doing anything else.

not as bad but it seems to be worse the less gas is in the tank i do not go below 1/4 tank but that is when i seems to do it worse thats why i though of the filter but since it is internal i can call that one out the window. i might just call the dealer and order those plugs and see how they work. i really appreicate the help
