Rota Wheels

I have Rota Tarmac's on my car 17x7.5... not sure of the offset though... only get VERY minor rubbing with 215's on the car and it is dropped with the spool springs so essentially 0 wheel gap in the front...

Edit: corrected improper with measurement on the rims.

FYI,

ROTA DOES NOT MAKE 7" WIDE 17" WHEELS. Not tarmac, or anything. They are all 7.5" wide. Therefore on a Protege WAGON or 5, you will need to run a +48 offset.

Now the centerbore depth is only an issue in the rear because of the dust caps and hub depth. Since the center area of the subzero is sunken in you lose a lot of material making it a real close call if you choose to dremel yourself. This is why we have a professional do this for us and we pay the price.

However, if it is an exclusive run for proteges i will have them made hubcentric for the Protege5, 67.1. Just like an OE wheel, no hubrings required. if you purchase any other 5x114.3 wheels from any other Rota dealer they will be 73mm centerbore and require hubrings.

The 7" WIDE +42 offset and 205/40/17 FITS MY RECIPE PERFECTLY. So we're not arguing with you there. What sucks is that it's undersized, racking up more mileage, and it's not as wide as you can go.

I base my recipes on max fitment and as close to proper O.D. I'd rather go bigger than smaller, better resale value. hehe. i've saved many a miles this way.

IF YOU GUYS WANT BATTLES, please contact Dave above and he'll set this up for you. Things are working out amazing with Jamie and Dave here to help with technical questions and feeding them to me. We're continuing to streamline the processes and get our website up to aid the community even further. Please take a gander.

good point on the lower mileage thing, never even thought of that...
Most tires are off by less than 2% so on a 100,000 mile car you are talking 98,000 which equates to just shy of not mattering as far as value at the least.

Yes, I stand corrected 17x7.5. Didn't realize that, so my apologies for posting bad info! I run a 215/45 (which is oversized... need the 45 for load rating reasons, safer for racing, and in general in theory.. or so I'm told) with whatever offset the tarmacs are in the 17" and it work out fine with the car dropped as much as it is... just a point of reference for anyone in at all a similar situation.

Sedans have more front spacing in the rear than wagons. About 3mm from my studies. This makes all the difference between +45 and +48. While the difference is minimal i like to have max contact patch on as close to correct O.D. What can I say, "I'd rather be over than under" for a street car.

205/40/17 - 23.46" and 860rev
195/50/16 - 23.68" and 852rev
215/40/17 - 23.77" and 848 rev

I see that on 205/40/17 every 106.5 miles you will be adding another mile that you haven't driven. So at 1000 it's 10.65 miles at 100,000 it's 106.5 miles. Yes it's petty but it is there.

On my suggested 215/40 we're talking about 4rev/mile to your benefit. it's closer. I'm and idealist, what can i say. Of course this will vary slightly by tire model and mfg.

Thanks guys,

Rishie

Just want to make sure nobody gets confused.

That's pretty intersting on the front spacing. Never knew that they actually located anything any different...

What are your thoughts on the load rating issues? I've found that most 40 series tires don't "technically" make it.

Idealism is good! I was only pointing out that people shouldn't expect to save 10,000 miles or anything :) Maybe with some dub dub's they would!

Guys.....if you want some battles.....turely hook up with Dave/Rishie.....I got a set of Battles from them in their very first batch that got from Rota...it took Rishie A WHOLE YEAR of talking with them to get them to offer us the proper offset/bolt pattern/hub spacing.....I got the silver ones...and I am running 215's....and yes its lowered too. its NEVER rubbed....not even taking a 40 mph posted corner at 85 mph.... :{D they stick like glue.
