Roof Rack on MS3

Just got a Thule roof rack installed on my MS3 for my bikes. This is the only pic at the moment. If you're interested I can provide you the part numbers. Enjoy.

Looks good. Just make sure not to overtighten it like I did or it will leave 4 nice dents on the pillars

400XT for the 4 "feet"
LB50 for the load bars
2135 Fit Kit (contoured for our roof line)
872 fairing (wind deflector thing)
599xtr Big Mouth bike rack- I got two of these
596 lock cylinders- comes with a set of 6 lock cylinders and 2 keys

The installation took about an hour or so, and was free at my local Ski Market.

Overall cost was under $500 after taxes.

How is the wind noise?

How is the wind noise with the Thule? Is it much more intrusive than it was without the roof rack?

I drove with 2 bikes on the rack at 80mph... I didn't notice anything different at all. No extra wind noise or howling whatsoever. The fairing must definitely be a major factor in this.

I had been doing that prior to getting a roof rack... I hated it. Well, it was a pain in the ass to remove and then remount the front wheel, and this was only amplified when their were two bikes in the car. Also, I like to keep my car as clean as possible. I'm very active on the weekends and have more than just myself in the car.

Plus, it only takes less than a minute to mount and unmount your bike with the rack... and looks hell of a lot cooler!(drinks)

I'm guessing you don't bike...(dunno)

Oh, and a reality check, I'm driving a STATION WAGON, a utilitarian vehicle! It's not like I put a roof rack on a sports coupe.

Ah. I ride after work usually. With the bike in the car, I don't have to deal with the parking garage, and I don't have to bring it with me when I go into the building. Just makes more sense for me.

I used to have a floor mount in the back of my Pilot when I could carry 3 bikes and 3 riders inside the car.

damn that pilot could hold come serious cargo. lol. i was just messing with you. it actually looks pretty cool. if it fits your lifestyle its not worth loading it all into your back seat everytime, taking off the wheel and putting it back on yada yada like you said. it fits the style of the car pretty well too. where do those straps latch that go into the doors? do they travel the inside of the car?

I think our car is a little like a utility vehicle, but on a personal level...

SUV - Sports Utility Vehicle. Those are gone now. The K5 Blazer and the Bronco aren't made any more. There are some Suburbans and such around, but unless they're lifted, have 35" tires, 4WD and a crawling gear, I don't really consider them a 'Sport' utility vehicle.

FUV - Family Utility Vehicle. Something with a third row, that can carry a whole family, or plywood from the Home Depot.

PUV - Personal Utility Vehicle. A sedan is an inefficient use of space. Since our hatches have more space, they're much more useful. We can carry bikes, groceries, and can even move everything we own into the new dorm room. I even took home a 37" Sharp Aquos in it. Someone else carried a 37' kayak.

the rack holds on the frame above the doors and there are tie down straps that seem to go into the door jam at the top.

The only straps I have are the bungies that hold the front tires onto each bike frame. The bikes are held down only at the forks.

These are the "feet" of the racks. They are more or less clamps with rubber insulation that hook onto the top of the car and the door jamb. Very secure setup. If you wish to port the rack over to a new car, all you have to do is get new feet for the racks.
