Roof Rack For The Mazda5 Thread

Inno is sorta loud. What can I do to make it have less noise? Sounds like a wind tunnel when I drive.

Try wrapping in a bungee cord 6 or so times across the length of it. We don't travel with ours unloaded, but I've heard it works. Our stubby (Dodge Journey) antenna has a wire wrapped around it, it's called something (eludes me), but I imagine it serves this purpose. Heck, come to think of it, our old Chevy's long whip antenna had a wire wrapped around it that may have been for this purpose as well..?

I just got my Inno and put it on last night..ordered a fairing but they are backordered and wont be shipped until the end of march! (eek2)

....those little plastic tabs on the factory mounting rails are a pain to get off....also I found the two rear locations had the top thread rolled over...that was fun :(

Kind of wish the locking pieces weren't made out of plastic...seems kind of flimsy/cheapo considering its what keeps the rack locked.

The little plastic tabs come off very easily if you push in the direction of the arrow along with the gentle pry of a pocket knife.

I understand what you mean about the plastic, but simply take some lithium grease and smear it to the backing plate (stay). Makes operation nice and smooth so you don't feel like you'll break it. The plastic piece is there to just keep the bolt tightened and "secure", so as long as you grease it, you shouldn't have much to worry about afterwards.

flcruising, thanks for the tip on the grease, I was actually referring to the thin plastic piece/cover that you slide over the stay/lock (has the inno stickers).....its esentially the only piece that is there to prevent someone from removing the stays from the mounting bracket

Oh, I gottcha. Yes, that seems to be there as more of a deterrent since the way it snaps on is pretty lame.

SuperJETT, you're a funny man. That would have gone nicely with my homemade wooden cargo box if my wife didn't laugh at me when I mentioned building one. ;)

FYI, ORSracksdirect.com is having a special sale on Inno racks. Their price for the IN-XR system (silver or black) is $166.48 with free shipping. You can also use coupon code INNO10 to get 10% off that price, for a total of $149.83. Just ordered mine. Can't beat that price!

Thanks for the ORSdirect tip.

Ordered mine for $149.83. Great deal. didn't want to spend $350 for
factory rack or $250 for Thule. Thanks for discount code.

I have had my Inno's for a few months now - I just took them off since it's no longer snowboard season in St. Louis :( I have 2 things for the newbies to Inno Racks:
1) DON'T USE THE AUTOMATIC CARWASHES THAT HAVE THE BRUSHES!! Go TOUCHLESS! (I know, the brush one's aren't good for your car anyway, but sometimes I'm lazy!) I actually came out w/ a bent rack system! Maybe it is that the snowboard attachment is too bulky? Anyways, don't even attempt it. I never had a problem w/ my Yakimas getting off kilter. But that may be because my bars were always factory on every vehicle until my 5.
2) If anyone can fabricate a better style 'fit hook' (mounting bracket) that has a hole in the MIDDLE of it for roof attaching, LET ME KNOW! I don't like how the whole thing is held on by 1/2 of that metal bracket.
Let me make sure I have them on correctly - the Mazda 5 only has 1 hole to attach that metal 'fit hook' to, Right??

Got my Inno rack installed, and I'm really happy with them (especially the price). I ended up ordering the 58" cross bars and the length seems fine to me so far. I'll post if they end up being eyepokers.

By the way, my kit did come with the rubber spacers. I know at least one other poster said they didn't get them when they ordered from ORSracksdirect.

First post here - my wife took delivery last week of a 2012 Mazda5 Sport Auto. So far she's very pleased - it replaced a 2000 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I'm looking at ordering the Inno IN-XR rack mentioned above, and ORSracksdirect.com wants to know if the rack fittings on the 2012 are the same as the 2010. Can anyone confirm this?

Bill

Checked Mazda website and has different part numbers for 2010 vs 2012. 2010 is 0000-8L-L06 and 2012 0000-8L-L09. Maybe
Mazda dealer can help. I looked on Thule web site but they don't list a 2012, maybe you could call them and see
if it's the same.

I'd bet they are the same, maybe the new part number is just an update. The roofs look
the same.

I'm interrested in what kind of gas mileage the 5 gets with the inno racks (or any racks) vs. nothing on roof. Does the fairing help with gas mileage or just noise?

I don't have the fairing and I'm getting around 23-24 mpg. I notice a difference. I just removed the racks/bars since snow season is over in StL. I am happy to get back to my avg 28 mpg
Hopefully someone will post f there is a difference w/ the fairing.

Without a rack, I've been getting 9.5-10.5L/100km. With the rack, 10-11L/100km. Not much difference, the real fuel economy killers has been the winter gas and winter tires. I should be getting 8.5-9.5.

I should say that I have the snowboard attachment on my racks too. That may be why there is a bigger difference
