Roof Rack For The Mazda5 Thread

I couldn't put my friend's canoe on which was 37" at the beam. I should say it almost fit but was so close to the curve part of the bar I felt it was too risky. So 35" should be okay for the canoe. Might be better to get the non-dealer Thule rack which has wider bars. I got the dealer one because the wife, sigh, liked the look of the dealer one better. At least I can put my sea-kayak on no problem and easily.

In the end, I went with the aftermarket thule for this exact reason. I could see there was no way my canoe was going to fit the factory rack.

jd wilson - "I have lost one rubber foot for the OEM roof rack for my Mazda5. No one seems to have this part available without buying an entirely new roof rack!!! Can anyone advise me?"

Are you willing to part out what you have to cut your loss when ordering anew one? I need a foot cover and like you have found that I would need to order a whole new rack kit. I might need all four foot covers if it is a different number key. I bet there are others who may need the bars, rubber pads, etc. that you still have.

Please advise.

Ok, After all the reading, i'm think I'm going with the thule 460 with 3080 kit. Is there a big diff between the 460r/460?

Also, whats a good length of bars to get? My setup i'm looking for is a slim box and maybe a bike rack as well? would 58" be sufficient?

Bolt size

Does anyone know what the bolt size is for the built in rack posts? I was planning on retrofitting my Tracker II system much like a few others have done, but I can find the right bolt? The origninal bolt from my Thule kit (which I think was 6MM, M6) was too big or had a different thread, but the 5MM, M5 was too small. It must be a metric, but nothing fits?

Thanks for any help!

I am getting the clips for my yakima q-towers shortly. Will post a review and pics once it is installed!
Going to Mt Hood to Snowboard just after new years!

Hey guys I'm ready to jump on getting a Thule roof rack with my car, and the general consensus seems to be that as long as nothing is attached to the Thule roof rack, the sunroof will clear it just fine?? Otherwise I might jump on the Innos, they may not be Thules or Yakimas but they look good and are a great price as well.

Whoops I ordered the Inno rack kinda by accident, didn't meant to submit order! Oh well $219 shipped can't beat that. I just have to drive south to a shipping receiver in the US to pick up!

GBean -

We love our Yak rack. I chose the CX9 setup for the Mazda5. It is not suggested, but I didn't want the clips to interfere with the doors.

Got my INNO IN-XR with TR Kit 120 fit kit for Mazda 5. :) Very happy with it. Now I just need to get a box.

Looks just like mine. Nice.

Suggestion - smear some lithium grease on the plastic piece that the tightening bolt goes through. This will make it much easier to fold up the lock without wondering if you'll break the thing.

Silver Inno's

Here's my '09 5 w/ the new Inno racks in silver. I love 'em!! The only thing I noticed is I didn't receive the extra spacer like the other Inno rack owners received. I guess the only bad part to not having them is the sunroof clearance? If you know of any other reason, please let me know.
I bought them from ORSracksdirect.com.
Free Shipping and the total bill was $220.
Bad part was the silver bars were on back order. I didn't receive the setup for about 3 weeks.
Also, for an FYI to anyone w/ any old Yakima attachments (the ones w/ the big plastic wing nuts for locking), if you have to get the new style of universal mount brackets........they won't work w/ the old wing nuts! Bummer. So, I have for sale a set of snowboard button downs and 3 different rack connectors.
Now, I'm waiting for my Inno Rail Slider snowboard attachments to get here next week!
Happy New Year!!

About to pull the trigger on a silver INNO with 50in cross bars. Has anyone used the bike attachment (downtube attached) INA382 ?

I am looking to get the OEM roof rack and the OEM 16 cubic feet box for my 2010 Mazda5 GT. Does anyone know the total height of the box, rack and car. Reason being I live in a condo with garage height restrictions

thanks

Question for those with the Inno rack and fairing (sorry if someone has already posted an answer to this)..but how big is the Inno fairing? Their site recommends the "S" fairing but I think ive seen a picture of this on a 5 and it looked super tiny...wondering if anyone has the medium (or large) fairing for comparison

Does anyone know whats the weight max we can load on Inno XR? I purchase it, but cannot find how much weight can be loaded on the bars.
I am also trying to see if its worth getting the Inno fairing or using a different one. I wanted to have a perfect size one to cover it.

i think the Mazda roof weight recommendation is like 100lbs (don't hold me on that) If you look in the manual, it will say in there what the max limit is. I remember reading it somewhere.

just got my thule aero racks.... debated on getting the whispbars but the shipping to hawaii would have added 25%.. will post pics after a wash... very minimal noise and feel more resistance at higher speeds.... overall love the look of the aero bars

INNO XR - 140 lb
Thule - 160 lb
Yakima I think is 130 lb.

Remember weight limit = carrier + load, so if your carrier weighs 47 lb, subtract 47 lb and that's how much your rack can carry.

Just installed my Inno on my 2012 mazda 5. Wish the instructions were in English!
First rack I ever installed in my life. Tok maybe 45 mins to a hour? I can now do it much less.
