Mazdaspeed Protege 2003.5
Anybody see this magazine? Its on news stands now and it had a comparison test between the speed and six other cars. I believe it was better than a civic si and Lancer Ralliart. But worse than SRT, Focus SVT, Nismo Sentra and TRD Celica. I was kinda surprised but to see the other car i was considering (SVT) to be third.

(fight) Anyone who would rate an SVT Focus, nonetheless a ******* Celica, above our cars, is a God Damn invalid! SVT Focus is slower and handles worse than our cars. It's only plus in my book is the 6 speed. The Celica they are talking about has 180 BHP....but...it's a hefty little chunker with a small powerband, and s*** suspension. (wedge)

agreed, fawk that magazine! its one of the best handling FWD cars in the world, i cant remember what magazine said that?

I thought it was THE best handling FWD car in the world.

Celica weighs only 2500 pounds and it handles very good. I have seen them in auto x and they do very well. True the powerband is not very good but its a fun car to drive. Nismo sentra cost allmost 25k when fully equipped who is going to pay 25k for a sentra when u can get a 350z for 2k more?

(headshake The MSP outhandled 95% of every car in the world that Motor Trend had EVER tested in the 600 foot slalom. We out ran EVERY FERRARI ever tested with the exception of the ENZO. (freak) The only cars other than the ENZO that beat our MSP'S that I can think of off hand are:

600 FOOT SLALOM:

Viper (headshake

Vette :(

(all) 911's...Carrera,GT1,GT2,GT3 (band2)

THAT ******* BASTARD EVO!

We even out ran the mighty STI!

CELICA? 2500 lbs.? I must be thinking about a different one. The one I test drove was a smidge over 2900 lbs. It had slower 0-60 and 1/4 tahn our MSP's also. What is this TRD model?

I just picked up the magazine. Road and track has some horrible drivers. It's like they drive it like they need to break it in or something. I never have like road and track.

ignore magazine numbers, spec-v owners know what its like to be the underdog, and i dont think anyone cares anymore. if you are satisfied with your car, nothing else matters.

and the best handling FWD car in the world is still the DC2 Type-R.

Focus SVT? I thought Motor Trend did a test on it and it wasnt that impressive...looks nice. Anyways The Nismo Sentra, TRD Celica and SRT-4 were given.

You know, no one ever compared an Integra DC2 Type R to a MSP. Those cars are amazing...saw one at Gainesville for Auto-X...drove the s*** outta it and still ran like a champ. Its one FWD honda that I would proudly own.

When I bought my MSP I was disapointed at the 1/4 mile time cuz we are in America and thats all that matters...the rest of the world sees things outside of the 1/4 mile. Anyways I read the Road and Track article when they compared the MP3 to the Porsche 911, ZO6, 360, Lotus Elise and etc and I didnt feel bad about my car. Like I actually get props for driving a good handeling car. Needless to say I love my MSP. But if I had to choose another FWD car, Integra type R would be my 1st choice and SRT-4 my second choice. I would gladly choose handeling over crazy power...cuz I know more about building up an engine then building up a suspension.

does anyone even know if someone on the planet has actually gotten an SRT to handle respectably? the previous gen of neons had a great IRS setup, i'm kinda interested to see what the new ones will do. [/offtopic]

and yes, Integra R's are crazy in the handling department. they are still THE D-Stock car to have.... some might say the wrx... but the wrx has not been very competetive nationally in DS. i think the MSP might have a better chance than the WRX actually.

Read SCC...there project SRT-4 part 2

They did a full supension upgrade from mopar....its a bit $$$ and a pain from what I read...but I believe it pulled like .90gs....go to there wedsite and you can read up on it.

<!--StartFragment --> On the skidpad, Project SRT-4 pulled 0.91g, up from 0.85g. Through the slalom, the improvements were equally marginal. In stock form, the last SRT-4 we tested slithered through at 69.1 mph. Project SRT-4 broke the gates 1.3 mph faster at 70.4 mph. The real changes, however, aren't easily measured in our instrumented tests. Project SRT-4 is now a much more serious driving tool. With real turn in and the ability to seriously rotate off the throttle, it's no longer a contest in howling tires and understeer at every on ramp.

The NEon ACR was amazing...any dodge that carries the ACR, SRT or GTS badge are very nice. ACRs was pure performance driving...

ACR's kicked major ass....our SM class leaders drive turbo ACRs

and despite a great lateral grip figure, im interested to see how it handles transitions and slaloms, as well as amount of controllable oversteer, etc. not just looking for numbers here. thanks though, i dont remember seeing figures in that article.

agree it all depends on the driver...im sure you can give a SCCA guy a Mitsubishi Montero and he'll whoop my ass in auto-X.

Dont take Magazine 100% but it is all we have...they compare cars for a living. Im sure they gave all cars equal treatment...to prevent bias in the test results. Its not like I can go out and test drive a Saleen S7, Ferarri Enzo and Porshe GT and compare there handeling...althought that would be awsome.

The stats on the SRT-4 suspension upgrade was posted on my last thread. Latteral grip was the major improvement while sloam speed increaded slightly.

Why the hell are they comparing our car to these others right now? All the others are still being made, but ours is out of production already, and probably off the lots within a few weeks. Did they do this test for used-car shoppers? I've personally never liked Road & Track much, they never drive normal cars or give normal reviews. I want to see an unbiased overall review of a car I can afford sometime, not a horsepower pissing contest or a $180,000 supercar shootout. All these car mags are going this route, and while I can't blame them since they get to drive these cars when no-one else can, I would much rather read real reviews of real cars. Was it car and driver that selected the SRT-4 over the mazdaspeed, but then said that almost all of the drivers would have chosen a mazdaspeed if they were going to buy one for themselves? That doesn't make sense to me, these guys need to get their eyes off the quarter-mile times.

Get consumer reports if you want normal cars

car and driver put it second...under svt focus. bu t it barely won that test...

think it was the fact that it wasn't as rare as the MSP that put it over the top..iono..may be wrong but i saw it on TV
