Rishie's FITMENT RECIPE

Will the 17x7 40mm offset rim work on a protege5?
and what kind of tires should i get with those rims?
And yes, i read the guide but i am stupid :)
and what does the offset mean?
does the rim with a lower offset stick out from the car or too much "inside" the wheel well?
Thanks Rishie.

That wheel should not work in most cases. Even with the thinnest tire available a 205/40. We've had rubbing issues. I'm very sorry as that is a very commonly seen fitment.

Ya there's enough backspacing on the P5 just barely. I haven't test fitted with the tire but we're sure it will work. The FD wheels are like 14lbs and the protege5 wheel is pretty light too around 16lbs. I'll probably just run the Azenis 215/45/16 all around. Most likely will get the Rota slipstream for the rear in the 7" width.

Later, Rishie

FD wheel front and Rota slipstream rear. Like I car what it looks like on the track. lol.

So is there anyone on this board who's narrowed or shaved some offset off a rim to make it fit?

There's a company here in Vancouver, called Green's Auto, that has done wheel modifications/repairs for 50 years, and they can widen and narrow rims, and I imagine machine off 2-3mm to change offset.

What backspacing would a 19x7 need?

I really like some Konig wheels ( 18's in black opal ) but they are all 18x7.5 with 45mm offset, and it would rock if this shop could just shave 3mm off the hub to make them fit.

Rishie, you hear of this being done?

Thanks,

RYan

Another question, hopefully will get answered, can the offset become too much?

I found some 5x114.3, 17x7's with 50mm of offset. Is that too deep for this car ( in the wrong way ), ie will it rub againt the inside of the wells?

You can go up to +55 mm offset on a 7" wide wheel without rubbing on the suspension. (That is the stock size of MP3 and Mazdaspeed wheels).

Rishie,
I am looking at 18" RH Evolution GT5's.
1. Do they come in the correct offset?
2. Can you get those, and if so how much for a package.

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Widest/largest tire on stock P5 rims?

My daughter just got a silver Protege'5 and we both love it!

She needs wider tires, so....

What is the stock (16") wheel width, and what is the widest tire you've seen work on it? 205/45-16? Been looking at the Yokohama AVS ES100.

We don't want to change the overall diameter too much.

Hook us up!

www.whalentire.com
has a good tire width/height/revolutions calculator.
select a car and then choose different tire models/sizes and you will see which other sizes come closest to the stock. its an easy way to pick a tire when getting different rims.
for 17" rim on a p5, the best tire size looks to be 215/40.
and like rowan said, 205/50 is better than 205/45 for a stock 16 inch rim.

hey guys, im new to the forums and its a ood thing i read the fitment guide... i was about to buy a set of 18x7.5 +40mm offset wheels with some 225/40-18 tires...

i was told by the e-tailer that these would fit on my '02 Protege 5 without problems... judging by the fitment guide i could have been in for a big headache.

i only considered these 18s because of the tire size, im not to crazy about going with a 215/35-18 so its looks like i may be going with some 17s, i saw on that link that was just posted by Yellow that some 205/45-17s would fit but i didnt see that size in the guide above...

the reason im considering that size is because the overall diameter is listed as being 0.59" taller than the stock tire diameter..

215/40/17 is only 0.09 taller than the stock 16" with tires.
its the closest match to stock.

I am looking to get Rota SubZero's 17x7.5 with a +48 offset. The tires will be yokohama ES100's 215/40/17. My Protege5 is lowered with the eibach pro-kit 1.4 Front 1.2 Rear. Please post any thoughts on this setup (fitment, looks, ride......). They will be steel gray with a poliched lip on a silver P5.

Thank you
(Plan to order today/soon)

Question: Will the stock MP5 tires fit on an aftermarket 16x7 rim?? I'm not sure how wide our stock rims are.

What is our tire size? If anybody knows off hand...the stock tires that come with our cars.....thanks in advance!

Why don't you read the sidewall?

The stock tires will fit on a 16x7 rim. It will look a little stretched but it's fine.
