Ok so i am going to paint my rims. Should i just sand em down and spray paint them. Is that how anyone else would do them? My car is red

Im guessing it would come out a hell of a lot better if i did the first option right? and thanks

yea man I was the one that voted white and that was before I saw that you said the car was red. Definitely go with black over white though. White won't look that good on a red car.

go with option 1.. and if you can find a friend with a spray gun id go with an actual clearcoat.. not that spray can stuff.. unless you go to a parts store and have them mix some up for you in a spray can.. you want a thick, hard durable clear or whats the point.. youll have to fix them all the time.. do them once and be done with it.. i just painted mine black last month.. i went with cheep primer and base coat.. but i paid $60 a quart for some DuPont clear.. did four coats.. then waited a week for it to fully cure.. then put my tires back on.. didnt even put a nick or a scratch in them doing so and i painted everything.. the lip too... cost me 75 bucks total.. and a have a load of clear left..

paint them gold or bronze, looks much better on red than black or white

I Have a blue P5 and wondering what colour rims would look good on it. I was looking to paint my stock one black. Any ideas on other colours or should I go with black? Thanks

I would highly recommend you powdercoat your wheels instead. Most places(at least in my area) only charge $35 per wheel. You will spend half that(if you do it right) for supplys for painting your wheels so I would just save for the other half to powdercoat them. Most people dont know but paint weight's more than powdercoating, which means if you powdercoat your wheels you wont have to strap as much counter weights on your wheel to balance them. Also powdercoating lasts way longer than paint. Either way I would go with the black color.

I agree that powder coating is a good idea for someone who has the money or doesnt want to take the time to do a correct paint job.. But when i paint my wheels I actually use less weight in ounces on my wheels.. Id doesnt matter how much weight you add to the wheel it dose matter how even the material is spread over the area of the wheel.. I spent a total of $70 painting my wheels.. And to say they wont last long is like saying the paint on my car is going to fall off.. Sure it can scratch from a large rock.. But so can anything else.. powder coat is a little stronger...

I guess it comes down to if your a spaz or not. I painted my wheels a little over a year ago, and they still look great. No major chips, they honestly look as good as they did when I painted them. You say the place charges 35 bucks, plus 10 dollars minimum to have some place remove/replace the tires per wheel. Getting close to 200 bucks, I spent about 30. Two cans of paint, two of clear and some de-greaser. If you take your time and do it right, it can come out looking awesome. If you do a horrible job of masking and prep, yeah they will look like crap. Which brings another point... does powdercoat look so good because of the powdercoat or the professional applying it?

God man take some tire shine to those tires! looks like you just went offroading in the P5 lol.

There's nothing wrong with painting them.
I painted my wheels and have not had any issues.
Good luck.
