Does anyone know at what RPM, if any, the Mazda5 5MT has a rev limiter set at? When I test drove a 4AT, I do remember bouncing off in sport-shift mode (oops), but driving my 5MT 5 today I was playing around in 2nd gear and got it right smack up to 7 grand, 500 over redline (double oops), with NO sign of a bouncing tach. Just curious... although I kinda wish it didn't let me go 500 over red limit without a fuss (eekdance)

eh.. mine bounces off at 7k in "manual" mode.. I assume you where about it hit it when you let off. The "Redline" isn't a mark that if you cross it your melting your pistons into ovals. They normally put the redline at a resonable speed below what the engine could do to keep it from tearing things up over time. They have to warrenty stuff so they will keep it safe. Also I doubt that engine would make much power with the stock ecm after 7k anyway. With the 2.3s stroke our pistons are below the 75fps threshold at 7krpm. I doubt your doing that much damage creaping past the area on the tach marked as red.

i forgot that my AT was in manny mode.. i took off in 1st and hit 7k rpm before i realized i had to upshift. kinda scary but kinda cool. this puppy loves to rev!
I coulda sworn that part of the recall involved reprogging the PCM to upshift the AT when in Sport Mode automatically at redline.
I've bounced it a couple times. Thing revs so damn smooth and makes so little power (compared to my Vic anyways) that I'm always revving the piss out of it like I'm driving my old '95 Neon 5 speed.
