Resuming Playback with 2014 CX-5 GT Tech Stereo and other issues

Yeah, it's not such a big deal on a long drive, but if you just drive a few minutes to the store, run in the store and come back out to start that same damn song again...UGH! I even tried putting a "blank" MP3 with the file name of 0000.mp3 (to make it the first track) so it would at least play nothing until I select the track I want, but the unit didn't seem to recognize the blank track. I've found that the best thing to do is just keep it in shuffle mode (but of course it doesn't save that setting either).

Man, I was going to do this exact same thing later this week. Did you actually make an mp3 with a few minutes of silence or is it literally a file named 0000.mp3?

I downloaded a 1 minute MP3 of silence and renamed it 0000.mp3. Got it from here - http://www.xamuel.com/blank-mp3s

Put it on my flash drive, but the vehicle either ignored it or couldn't read it. My guess is it ignored it due to no audio, or perhaps quickly played the first few seconds and then went to the next track.

I downloaded the 5-minute mp3 file and renamed both the artist and song in itunes to "10000000000000." I loaded this song onto my ipod and it's now the first song that plays!

Yeah I was thinking after I typed my reply that I didn't change the track title, only the file name. Thought maybe it went by file name but apparently it is track name.

I have an Android and don't have any problems using any of those features and don't have to have secret combinations or anything. iPhones and iPods are closed source tech do when updates come our after the vehicle tech does there is always an interface problem. I suggest switching to the Android or something other than the macOS systems. Never had problems with text message or voice commands.

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that's not an Apple issue: on my European CX-5 there is no problem with iPods and iPhones. I can resume without any problem. It's clearly a Mazda issue...

So what do you do after the stereo picks up the "10000000" song? I assume it gives you time to select a song or shuffle without having to hear the first part of the first song on your device?

Yeah, that's really all it does. I prefer it rather than hearing the same song over and over every time I pull out of the driveway.

So true. That would make me feel like Bill Murray in "Groundhog Day"!

Clearly a change Mazda made in the 2014 models since the 2013's don't exhibit this behavior.

It's not really a solution per se but I've got a workaround. I've got my phone (Android Note II) hooked up with BT and a profile, so when it's in the car it just resumes where it left off. There's probably a similar option for iOS and the newer iPods probably do BT as well.

Some apps that can help:
Locale
Tasker
maybe Profiles+

Tasker is great if you want to automatically turn on BlueTooth when you're in the car & resume playing.

OK, put the blank file on my nano (had to name it 00100000 because first song is "007 (Shanty Town)"). Works like a champ. Thank you, Senor Valasco and juggernautrises.

My new 2013 3i Grand Touring appears to have the same system with the same issue. It's driving me crazy. Between the delay "reading" the iPod and having to manually get back to the playlist I want and then the correct song, I'm halfway to my destination before I have the music that I want playing. A software update to fix this had better be on the way.

Hey, all,
My local newspaper (Washington Post) has a car columnist who has weekly chats, and I wrote in about this problem to seek his assistance in putting pressure on Mazda to fix this. (http://live.washingtonpost.com/real-wheels-live_031513.html) I'll keep you apprised of any developments.

got a quick reply already:

Happy to help. Havae you heard of this before, Lou Ann? I ask because it's a new one for me. We'll put this out there to get a responsse from one of our many tecchies...or from Honda. Thanks for writing. Watch tthis space.

Hopefully they call Mazda and not Honda....

Good idea getting someone like this involved as Mazda may react quicker.
Edmunds.com has a long term CX5 that they have the same complaint on.

Maybe the radio and or software is made by Apple, which a means you won't get much of a acknowledgment of an issue and a patch will be sent out quietly lolol

I suppose it gives us hope that the issue is now going mainstream. I think I might even forward a link to that article to that Mazda customer service email.

I just got my CX-5 last week and have been having all the same issues. Additionally I've had one additional symptom and I'm trying to figure out if I'm the only one who's noticed this. Since I have to reshuffle every time I get in the car, I've been noticing that the same handful of ~20 songs keeps popping up at the beginning of my shuffled song list. In a two day span, my song list of 4500 songs would came up with the same second song 4 different times. I usually have to advance ~5 or so songs into the playlist before I get one I haven't heard before. Anyone else experienceing this?

yeah that was a complaint my wife had in her cx5 was that the shuffle seemed to 'like' playing some songs more than others, and i have noticed in mine that it seems like i'll hear the same songs more than once and some hardly at all... we both have 13's
