Resuming Playback with 2014 CX-5 GT Tech Stereo and other issues

*sigh* i continually am more and more disappointed in mazdas software engineering department, they removed the resume from usb? wtf....

I had USB reading problems because of the size. When I tried plugging in a 16GB stick it took over 5 minutes for it to read and start playing. That being said it only took 30secs for it to read a 1GB stick.

Is that how long it took when you'd restart the car or just when you'd plug it in for the first time?

I've got a 16GB stick with 6GB on it and it takes about 3-5 seconds when I start that car.

Every time I start the car. I ended up using a MP3 player through the AUX adapter.

wow, that is weird how much difference there is. I just added more music to mine so it is now at 9GB and I put it back in the car and turned the car on and it was exactly 5 seconds for it to start playing.

mine are all 256 to 320kbps mp3 files with no more than 1 folder in from the root directory.

I received a reply from Mazda saying they would forward my complaint to the product planning department. I'll let you know if I get any more correspondence. It don't have much hope the system will be improved for the current models.

I just e-mailed Mazda as well, but I expect nothing - in the meantime it's HD-Radio and AUX IN for me. Is anyone considering aftermarket stereos? Is it even possible for a 3rd party device to support steering wheel controls, backup camera, separate NAV module and everything else?

Resume in the middle of a playing MP3 has been included in head units ever since the 2nd generation of MP3-CD playing Aiwa's from more than a decade ago. If this works in the 2013, and doesn't work in the 2014, this absolutely must be corrected. I'm going to be really upset if I can't load up a USB stick of songs, and have it actually resume in the middle of whatever song was last playing when I restart the car. Inexcusable.

Yup, hard to believe isn't it? Try one at the dealer before you pull the trigger. Fortunately I caught it before I signed on the dotted line.

And what about the other things that get controlled by the factory radio? Rain sensing wipers, door locks, headlights. What happens to those settings if you pull the stock head unit?

Seems like replacing the head unit is impractical. There is another thread in this forum where someone has installed a double DIN unit on a CX-5 that didn't have the tech package. I wouldn't want to lose any controls or features by switching out the head units.

By the way, just got a reply from Mazda, seems similar to not_too_shabby's reply.

"Thank you for contacting Mazda regarding your 2014 MAZDA CX-5. I am sorry to hear that you have these concerns about the Bluetooth and USB functionality. Not all devices will have full compatibility. See Page 5-23 for some details on compatibility. We are continually trying to improve our products and function support for all devices. When there is a type of software update the dealer can update that for you. Have you brought up these issues with your dealer for inspection? I will document your concerns for our corporate records which are reviewed by our product planning department."

Also just e-mailed my dealer asking to advise of software updates. Seems like there may be a possibility (long shot?) of a dealer installed software patch in the future??? My expectations are low-

Come on, Mazda, impress us with some actual customer support and fix this thing-

Grrr -- this is really disappointing to hear, after otherwise being pretty much set on getting a GT CX-5 this spring. :( However, considering how much time of the time I spend in the car is listening to music from playlists, this would be perennially frustrating -- enough to make me seriously reconsider my purchase plans. :sigh:

New to the forum, just got my 2014 CX-5 Touring AWD with Tech today. Having the same issue with iPod. Takes a loooong time to load the iPod (tried two different Nano - new one and 5th gen). And yes, it does NOT resume playback where it stopped! Really annoying. Good thing the new Nano has bluetooth.

Let's hope they fix it. If you use the new nano with bluetooth, what happens if you plug it into the USB to charge? Does it still stream via bluetooth, or does it switch over to the USB control? Does it pause playback when using bluetooth when switching off the car?
