Resuming Playback with 2014 CX-5 GT Tech Stereo and other issues

"All" your issues?? Haha! We all know the head unit is not the only issue with this car. I traded out my head unit almost as soon as I heard of/experienced the issue, after trying various homegrown workarounds. But this lack of concern from Mazda, taking over 2 years to fix a very simple problem, while claiming there was no issue for much of this time (works as designed...bulls***) piled on top of shaking mirrors and hoods, shoddy interior, noisy ride, etc was more than enough to send me back to Toyota. The Toyota quality makes Mazda look like a joke, and guess what? The stereo system is flawless....bonus! Add me to the list of people Mazda has lost as a customer for life. (hi)

What's this shaking hood complaint?
I don't have that problem.
Is it on older CX-5's?
Mirrors were changed in late 15's like mine.Hood issue fixed on the 15's too?

I find the interior pretty nice in quality for the cost.Ride noise and interior quality isn't any worse than than a '13 CR-V EX-L w/Nav I owned or a new RAV4 test ride.
The infotainment system does blow, though when it comes to IPod play,Bose is mediocre but the Nav is ok.No problems with texts.

That is exactly what I was thinking after reading aaelian's experience with his module replacement. If Mazda are not going to fix it, we have enough bright and adventurous people on the forum to figure it out ourselves. Does anyone have the schematics of the Bluetooth module? If power can be supplied to it all the time the playback status should be preserved. As for the battery drain, low power device like that should be of no consequence on day to day basis, and if long term storage is expected a switch can be installed to cut off the additional power manually.
If I were going to engineer a workaround I'd build something that would provide power to the radio externally on a (hidden?) switch somewhere to turn it off. During the day while using the car I'd turn it on so the infotainment system always had power, and at the end of the day/trip turn the switch off so as not to drain the battery.

Does anyone have a 2014 that is resuming play when they restart the car?

Im driving a CX-5 2014, i oso have facing same issue as u all guys.
The 2014 vision still cant solve with the resuming play when the restart the car but my old honda CRV-2010 is fine with it !!!

Now is there any solving solution? i dun mind to pay more/invest some money ! Because i really hardcore with music !
thx.....

Seems this is solved - I emailed Mazda UK today about it having picked a new Mazda6 up yesterday and being super miffed about the issue - here is the response:

Dear Mr Philpott

Re: 1-12910XXXXX

Thank you for your e-mail.

There was a hardware update released recently that resolves this issue and is available to be fitted free of charge by your local approved Mazda dealership. Please contact them and ask them to look on the Technical Notice Board for a Bulletin on the 24/7 about USB operation changes. If they have any problems with this they can contact the technical department at our head office who will be able to assist them with this.

They will need to order the part and once it has come in they will be able to book your vehicle in to get it fitted.

If you need any further assistance please feel free to call me on 08457 XXXXX. We are here between 9.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
Yours Sincerely

Not solved for me... yet. I had my second replacement Bluetooth/USB module fail completely this morning. Given the fact that my CX-5 is only 6 months old and has now gone through 3 modules, and the current module and the previous replacement both failed within 4 weeks of being installed, it leaves me to conclude that they have bigger issues than just software functionality to fix. Been in contact with Mazda UK again this morning as not a happy bunny.

Hi Barkeyo mine failed again as well - this is only my second - from what I gather from the chatter in the Mazda 6 forums is that they actually reprogramming defective units (refurbish) with a new firmware and that is "should" be solved. Mine was for about three days after which the BT tab disappeared on the unit. I had to do the pull of the fuses and all was fine for another week, now it happened again. I am advised to call the Mazda Canada Bluetooth "hotline" what ever that is.... I will give it a shot.

As mentioned in another thread, I had the CX5 in for an oil change and also to have them look at the NB1 issues. This was exactly 1 week ago. I didn't try the BT with my Nexus 4 phone right away. It was about 2 days after that when I paired the device. So far, knock on silicon, the CX5 has not forgotten the phone 5+ days now. Usually 3 or 4 days and it has to be re-paired again. Hoping for this to continue at the very least.

HF software version is now 06.03.000.

Still hoping for a USB fix regarding: forgetting last track and random track sequence.

Oh, bugger - I was feeling good about the fix too!

Waiting to have it booked in for the "repair" will let you know how I get on.

Will let people know the outcome of my discussions with Mazda UK in due course.

CX-5 forgot my Nexus 4 with 4.4.4 a few days ago. It did last a week after a check over from my dealership. That was up from the typical 3-4 days. Still, I'm done with this whole crappy infotainment system.

BTW, anyone use the BT "hotline" number Mazda gives out and any success? They want me to call to get an official reference number before doing anything further.

Just got the bluetooth/usb module fitted to car here in uk.Can honestly say it makes a good difference to usb stick playback.car now resumes on previous song when restarted.this was the worst flaw of the system for me and had not actually used usb for 6 months because of this major irratation.the system will sort song as 1/1 for few seconds before sorting out correct order on album.i pod classic 160gb is still basically unusable with system.gave up on it in this car.all in all though big improvement solely for remembering previous song on usb,im pleased with it though not perfect.

When you say "fitted", do you mean updated? My Mazda 6 already came with USB/Bluetooth but there's no resume.

He means refitted. The CX-5 has the same USB resume issue, but Mazda here in the UK are physically swapping out the Bluetooth/USB Module which controls the whole process.

Yes, that's exactly what the replacements I had did for me... while they worked. USB resume issue was sorted and reading of USB itself was far quicker, which was all great, but then the modules I had just died. I've had two swaps, and am waiting for my third replacement, as the new modules have simply packed in within weeks of being fitted. There is though a brand new revision of the module available, which I highlighted in a previous comment, so my dealer is now waiting to get the part in so he can fit it.

So, we'll see how it goes.

Failures of the new part could by why they haven't rolled out to the US market yet. Sometimes it takes a couple attempts for a fix to really stick...

Yeah it was a new bluetooth/usb module.i contacted mazda uk,they got the local dealer to order.i would definately recommend it as usb playback was basically really poor before as u probably know.couldnt hack the no resume.so seems ok now

Dont know if i got the latest version, though was just fitted there on wednesday so hopefully it is the latest.wouldnt like to think mazda would be still fitting the older ones if they knew they were giving problems.never know though.all seems ok with mine at moment so fingers crossed.as i said it is a good improvement and would recommend anyone in uk gets in touch with dealer/mazda uk to get it fitted.dont think they will be calling any customers first

Well it looks like our friends across the pond are having mixed results; we here don't even get that. My biggest gripe with the system is the USB playback resume. I recall reading somewhere that one of the differences in the infotainment systems between the 14-15 models and the 2013 (which didn't have the playback resume issue) is that the USB port now is handled by the Bluetooth module. So when the car is off the power to the unit gets cut off as well and the USB status gets lost, or at least that the theory I running with. I was looking on the Bluetooth wiring diagram (see link) and it appears that power is supplied to the unit through the ACC relay (163) which in turn would trigger a relay to connect it to the battery (F-01). I suppose that if the ACC connection is bypassed and the power is supplied directly to the unit all the time the USB should resume its previous state. Any thoughts?

Great. I'm going to contact my dealer tomorrow (already e-mailed them, but no response...) and see what they say.
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had the new module installed and if they've had the same issue with the modules; i.e. system failure within weeks of being fitted.
