Reprogramming P5 computer

Damn its back!

I drove around last night after I put the P5 ecu in and it ran fine. U N T I L .. I got in it this mourning and Its back!! and I also had a check engine light on the diaonostics(spelling way off) test came back error 1569..not real sure exact what it is but Keith @ FM whom I just talked too is going to rack his brain and see what he can come up with...the error is something like bad connection w/ syleniod ? He doesn't believe that that is causing it he thinks its the whole WOT prob.. he said he would do some research along with Bill and get back with us..

I just want to say one thing FM rocks!!! Bill , whom I talked to last friday, and Keith both are sooo helpful and courtious. I mean I don't know much about F/I but they don't make me feel like an idiot!! Anyway I just wanted to say thanks in advance to the guys at FM!:D

Your case is realy puzzling me too. There are several MP3s out there now all running 6 PSI with out issue and keith was able to get 6 PSI with no knock on 91 octane and at insanely high altitudes. Also shouldn't the tech that read your computer be able to tell you exactly what the error is.

Sorry to hear your having problems too man.:(

according to the workshop manual, 1569 is a fault from the VTCS sensor. the mp3 doesn't have one, does it? so swaping the ecu with the protege5, which does have the VTCS, the ecu is looking for the VTCS solonoid. since the ecu can't find it, it threw the code.

it don't get much more simple than that. this is probably why you should get you pro5 ecu flashed to mp3 specs, either. (although, it would be nice)

OK, I'm sure you guys all already know this, but I just wanted to get it out. We have an ECU designed for sloppy, American, 87 octane gas. THat means is can HANDLE the gas if it has too. But read your manual cover to cover (I know, I'm a geek), and you'll find that our ECU is actually tooled for 89 octane! It will successfully advance the timing for 89, in effect creating a car that has to run on plus (but can retard if it gets s*** gas). I run at least a 91, often 93 (cause the 93 is close to home) in the vauge hope that in fact the ECU will advance up to 93....

Just a heads up, or cars will see, with NO ECU change, an improvement by moving at least to 89.

(Hi!) f*ing neons.......

Um, are you talking about the little deal on the intake manifold that opens up at a certain RPM to allow better airflow in the upper RPM range??

If so, yes the MP3 has one, as well as the Protege 5...

no. that is the VICS - Variable Intake Chage System. i am talking about the VTCS - Variable Tumble Control System. two completly different animals. the VICS changes between two different runner lengths. the VTCS is right at the head port (but still in the manifold) and allows for better emmisions control.

Thanks for the clarification on that...To many "V", "C" and "S" things running around in this car...I would think that would be in both cars as well.

The VTCS isn't activated in the MP3 ECU. Also, the VTCS is only activated when the engine is cold to aid emissions in the first few minutes of running. I'm thinking about removing The actual butterflies and shaft out of the intake. As long as the solenoid remains connected then it won't throw a code. That and the ECU are the only differences between the MP3 and the P5/ES/LX motors.

Ok, I see. So why would the MP3 not have this? If it is for emmisions controls, I would think it would have to be there.

Although, the Protege 5/ES/LX is considered ULEV, and the MP3 is only LEV...

Would the VTCS make that big of a difference?
